Its raining today in Taunton, and the races were pretty badly affected too...

I think today was the first rain affected day of cricket I have ever been to at the county ground.. I think we are lucky not to be anywhere near old trafford :)

Michael Clarke's made a decent start , unbeaten 73 at a run a ball , methinks Hampshire are gonna be pretty hard to beat this year in div 2 of the CC , at least while Clarke & Warne are there.
They both bring a bit of a buzz to the dressing room , those two operating around Crawley & their seamers should see them promoted.

Northants on the other hand look like they're gonna be a little out of their depth in div 1 , I thought apointing David Sales as skipper was a good move as Im a big fan of his , but basically every game they won last year was due to either Hussey or Jaques....and this year they dont have either of em.
They just dont seem to have enough firepower in the fast bowling department.

Stuart Law's picked up where he left off last September , Lancashire are favourites for me , they've kept pretty much the same side , but picked up Cork , if Hooper & Law's seasons go anything like they did last year I dont see anyone else really challenging them.

I dont think Surrey will be as strong a unit as they have been the last decade or so , Bicknell , Ramps , Salisbury & Brown are getting a bit long in the tooth & with Stewart & Ward gone , plus the fact Butcher will only be around a third of the time things could've looked better.
I still expect they'll be top 4 finishers...but I dont think they'll take the prize.

Sussex look strong but not as good as Lancashire from my point of view.

I think Lancashire will win the CC , Hampshire will be div 2 champions & Hants , Yorkshire & Notts will get promoted.

Except they haven't really had Butcher and Stewart in recent seasons either.

Wisden said this about the Taunton track

"Taking 20 wickets on it will be like trying to get a stone to bleed"...

Its going to be a long summer :(

Intresting, you are about the 3rd review I have read about the County Championship (all from major sites) that has failed to have even acknowledged Kent at all, now I don't know what's going on here but surely we aren't that invisible are we? :crybaby:

not invisible...just not that good

Great start to the season by Lancs...just got to convert it into a win vs Northants

Well at least tell us we are going to get relegated then, there is no need to ignore us completely when everyone else gets a good mention :p

Lets not forget that basically the only reason Kent didnt get relegated last year was they signed Murali for the last month or so of the season :p
Otherwise you'd be battling it out for a div 2 title.

As for their prospects this year Im not convinced either way , they've lost Mark Ealham who's been a constant contributor day in day out with bat & ball.
And Geriant Jones is unlikely to be around for much of the season.
On the other hand they've got Saggers who's been the best bowler on the county circuit for 3 years running , backed up by Khan & Tredwell who both have big raps on em although they havent shown alot yet at First Class level.

Fulton , Smith & Key are three of the bigger names in county cricket & if all three fire then they could be very hard to topple , Smith & Key may be hopeful of recalls but I dont like they're chances personally.
Then there is Carberry , I saw him bat in a second XI match in 2001 & he seemed to have alot of ability to me (not that any old so & so couldnt score runs in county 2nd XI cricket  ) , this will be an interesting season for him , hopefully he can really step up & make a name for himself.

Im not sure about this young seamer they've signed though , Mr Stiff , he has some huge raps on him I know , but he didnt set the world on fire at under 19 level (thats putting it kindly) & he bowled like 5 no balls in his first over at first class level , only time will tell I guess.

Id expect Kent to just miss out on being relegated.

Rich - Saggers is not God.
Thomas - Not quite but he's very close :p

Been superb at county level for a long time now yet he keeps getting over looked due to fads the selectors seem to go through.
Such as "we need genuine pace" - (2002) & last seasons motto "if you perfom consistently at county level then we might pick you , then if you do well once in the team you might be retained". (the way selectors handled James Kirtley , Martin Bicknell & Kabir Ali last summer being my reasoning).

Code:
[b]Name Matches	Overs	Maidens	Runs	Wickets	Best	Avg	Econ	SR	5	10[/b]
MJ Saggers	77	2321.1	502	7102	312	7--79	22.76	3.05	44.6	15	0
Even your best bowler in Gough can only boost a Avg of 26.92 and a Econ of 3.18 and a S/R 50.7 in the domestic game so :p - and before you say that Gough has taken aload me wickets, Saggers has only played 77 matches compared to nearly 200 from Gough and Saggers has only been around a few seasons, compared to Gough's 10 or so... So IMO Saggers is doing pretty darn well to have the figures he does.

Each to your own I guess, you can say what you like about Kent but makes very little difference to me, I will continue to support them and know that the team are highly talented etc

Saggers should definetly be in the England side. IMO he should be the 2nd pace bowler selected and is far better than Hoggard or Jones.

Are you seriously telling me that David Stiff is that ugly

Iam sorry but I think there's a fair few others like Rikki Clarke that would take the award :p

Let's hope they never sign Jacob Oram as an overseas player.

Or you, for that matter.. ;)

Hmmm, I can't see that happening - in fact any changes are unlikely.
