Love Dimi but was always unlikely at the very end there, Ervine wicket really crucial, rekon we would have won if that had gone either side of the fielder. Taylor the difference though. That and the fact we bowled Ervine at the death.

Well last I checked, Kieswetter is still in our lineup so he'll just go back to opening. Which, if we're being honest, is the only place it makes sense for him to bat if he's going to be in the side. A dot-dot-slog merchant at 5 or 6 was a bit silly.

Cook
Kieswetter
Trott
Morgan

Patel
Bresnan
Broad
Swann
Finn/Jimmeh

Is what I'd be expected. Bairstow, Buttler, Taylor and Stokes to have a scrap for the two middle order spots. I'd love to see Taylor and Buttler but that's because I'm a fanboy for both.
Proudly so.
What of it.
Come at me bro.
Yep, and I was just picking the side I wanted, I really don't rate Kieswetter as opener, but you're right he will play.

Looking at the side we desperately need to get Buttler in that 50 over side, lacks middle order hitting big time and if it was my choice I'd have him in against the WI and keep him in all summer. He also had a brilliant tour of SL with the Lions which should see him in good stead for when we play India again later this year.

Well for a start he can rotate the strike.
True, loves to hit every ball in the air at a good catching height as well.

You might rate Davies as a better batsman fair enough but in no way his he much better. Feeling a bit dirty now for sticking up for Kieswetter

Looks like the wicket at Chester-le-Street has rolled out nicely - I fear Lanky have a long day in the field coming up followed by a squeaky bum day tomorrow

Good to see Root got to his ton today and Bairstow get some quality time at the crease today, shame he couldn't get to three figures as well but 68's a decent knock.

Too bad for Compton yesterday but he's 54* today, bet he's swearing like **** under his helmet.

anyone who is anyone scoring runs today in a bid to get in England ODI setup. Stokes, Buttler, Compton, Root, Bairstow .... even Collingwood sensing a recall ... j/k

Troughton may be captain but his batting is awful these days. They're going to have to drop him eventually.

It's finding another opener again just when we think we've got it sorted for once, I know Taylor can open but he's coming in at 5 for Notts in all formats atm.

Stokes has plenty of time on his side at 20, surprised he only averages 28 though. He's only had a couple of games so far and scored 9 & 22, England will be looking at him as more the all-rounder and I'm not sure he's even bowling again yet.

Buttler made a 71 the other day but again he comes in well down the order for Somerset, hope he gets a chance in 50 over cricket for England this summer, must be time for him he's a far better 50 over cricketer than T20.

Speaking of one day openers, it's Carberry's 4th 50 in a row
Kieswetter will be opening surely? He was never dropped, he just got moved down the order.

The first 4 is presumably going to be: Cook, Kieswetter, Trott, Morgan. So I think the next 3 spots are going to be between: Bairstow, Buttler, Bell, Taylor, Stokes and Patel. I'd personally go with Buttler, Stokes and Patel. But it will likely depend on conditions. I.e. on a seamer freindly track it's probably worth bringing in a bat for Patel, with Stokes taking up the 5th bowler duties. If it's turning Patel can do that.

Incredibly ironic that Compton gets a ton today. What could have been if not for rain etc...

Yes he will, I was thinking more long term although Kieswetter may prove his worth when he moves back to opener, at the end of the day though he got moved down the order because he wasn't cutting it.

Well you can look at that conversely he was dropped from being opener, and didn't really excel in the middle-order. or wot Jacknife said.

Don't see why he's a certainty anyway, particularly as Bairstow and Buttler can keep, even if they don't bring in Davies.

I've just noticed that Will Gidman averages 36 with the bat and 20 with the ball. That's kind of insane, isn't it?

8.41 was a bizarre resumption time for the Kent - Warks game, although by then the Kent innings was already four balls old. Three slips are hardly justified by the bowling I've just been watching.

Sam Billings impressive tonight and yet another keeper-batsman coming through, one to keep Geraint Jones on his toes. Has played for England at various age-group levels too.
