Sam Billings impressive tonight and yet another keeper-batsman coming through, one to keep Geraint Jones on his toes. Has played for England at various age-group levels too.
I echo what Athers has said on commentary - something just looks right about some of the shots Billings has played - balance, timing, synchronisation: call it what you will.

Would be interesting to watch if Wright was allowed a few more of those short ones, mind.

Bummer for Compton about the rain denying him. Although full credit to him for tonning up once more in the innings that had started on the thirty-first.

Anyone know what the weather outlook is like for the North East today?
Quite dark, cloud and light drizzle. Shouldn't be heavy rain but it's a miserable day and I'm walking over to the local cricket club with my tripod to try it out with some video. So that might bring some heavier stuff.

It's supposed to be less rainy, albeit still blanket cloud, in the early afternoon.

Yikes - best hope they don't get on then - sounds like Onions will run through my lot in no time

I've just noticed that Will Gidman averages 36 with the bat and 20 with the ball. That's kind of insane, isn't it?
I've been waiting for ages to see his bowling average rise and it just hasn't. Beginning to bug me a bit.

Durham should bring Onions back on, if they take a couple of wickets then there might be a collapse.

Also kinda puts Onions in the frame for the next test.

Interesting bit of symmetry:

Mat Runs HS Ave
53 1212 88 23.76 Shahzad 3*
83 2121 88 23.83 Hogg 3*

Just before the single and boundary off Harrison.

Well we're up to 3-4 players turning up. Don't have a problem with the more generous wages if they're actually based on good performances. But a fair few of them can **** off somewhere else if they keep this up. Would rather have youngsters playing **** than 30+ year olds playing **** on a high wage.
