Congrats to SL!

Herath is such a gun. Hasn't he played a big role in almost all matches SL has won without Murali in last 2 decades?

Not a bad effort for a second innings, it was all lost in the first innings... some woeful batting and the fielding didn't help.

How about Bresnan in for Monty?
if the pitch for the next test is spin friendly you seriously can't play patel. i'm not sure if this was an one time thing or what but he looked awful batting against it

will be the top three of those currently in the team in the batting averages against SA,

Philander will make Cook his bunny.

On the two or three occasions when Steyn/Philander don't get him out cheaply, Strauss will get to thirty and then get out.

As for our WORLD CLASS nos. 4 and 5, I'm hoping against hope that the selectors won't be stupid enough to pick 'em, but, let's face it, stranger things have happened.

If they do, it will be embarrassing gory carnage - to the point where the seamers will only ever get three or four overs at them at any given time - Smith having pinned a WANTED poster on the dressing room wall with mugshots (geddit ;-)) of KP and Bell and text informing the seamers that anyone who can't get such mugs out within 25 deliveries is never a true braai-lovin' patriot and must go to bed without supper.

Steyn, Morkel and Philander meanwhile will curse themselves when they miss out on their narrow window, but it won't cost the team anything - as on both occasions it happens Smith will simply toss the ball to Tahir who will do the Swanny/Warney thing to the ironic strains of Jerusalem.

It's a bit much to drop someone after one match... and anyhow, I think he's usually decent against spin. I'm just not a fan of Monty's joke fielding.

Even now it's 'poor old Monty' from Willis and the rest. **** that, it's not good enough to be so consistently bad in the field.

This match has proven that you need to be a really good team to beat SL at Galle
No you don't. India beat them 4 years ago. With Murali and Mendis at his peak.

To be honest, you have to be either way off your game OR be just complete crap to lose to this SL outfit.

don't know why this current SL side gets underrated so much the batting line up for these conditions is one of the best that you can get. The bowling is average but you don't need your Hadlee and Warne to bowl this English line up out in these conditions.

Herath has been such the revelation since Muralitharan retired.

Attacks the poor footwork of batsmen by bowling a very high percentage of deliveries stump-to-stump. It's a shame he never formed a great combination with Muralitharan as Sri Lanka recycled numerous spinners through the number two spot over his career.

Joyed to see a SL win. Sanga seems to be going through a lean patch, and it doesn;t help when he bats on a turner either. Opening is a problem and it's high time Dilshan to be dropped down the order, to take on spin of Swann and Panesar. I would promote Sanga to open, playing against pace more. Anyway the second test will be played on a bit more seamer friendly track. Mathes can take a bit of a rest, and Chandimal can continue. I'd try Eranga instead of Welegedara.

Sanga, Thirimanne, MJ, Chandimal, Sam, Dilshan, PJ, Randiv, Eranga, Herath, Lakmal

He did once in 1999 in his 1st match, and Aussies were groping.

Yeah he more than any other bowler (perhaps Ajmal) is the one who is most clever at exploiting modern deficiencies in techniques against spin. He's not the most skilled bowler, but he's sharp.
