*Official* England in South Africa 2019/20

KG bowled really well first spell. Lots of runs of inside and outside edges. After lunch was trying to hard. Nortje has now found a good line and length. Maharaj did nothing wrong except get hit off the straight by Stokes with nothing in pitch for him. Expect him to play a bigger role 2nd innings and like you say should be a bigger part in PE and CT.
Was talking more after lunch. Two short or too full & 2 sides of the wicket.

I think Kesh has been off the boil and a lot of that was down to Otis Gibson's tactics and thought processes. Smith alluded to it in the lunch break that they (Boucher & co) want to give him more belief and show how much they value him.

Whatever it takes!!!
As long as they can get this pair seperated soon, it can be bad signs for England. OTOH, it is Sam Curran and Buttler. No better batsmen in all of England for a counter attacking risk and luck laden rescue effort.

I haven’t been able to watch today so don’t know how it’s unfolded. But the match position is as I suspected last night. We needed to bowl them out for 230 and bat with discipline to get a lead. All way beyond the current line up.

With that Stokes wicket De Kock pouches his 5th catch of the innings.

A fair chance of probably equaling the world record for most in a test innings (7) if things stay the course.Maybe even break it.

sa just keep producing quicks
I don't think any other country in the world produces the quicks that SA manage to consistently produce. For the number we have lost to injury, retirement and kolpak in the last 2/3 years and to still have a pace bowling attack that can rival any other teams says alot.

And I can name at least 3 good 18-21 year olds that are coming along nicely.

Did Foakes piss on a selector's lawn or something? How on earth is Bairstow still getting a gig, you just cannot keep getting bowled at Test level and be taken seriously ffs.

reckon firdose moonda (or her editor, whoever lets that atrocious spelling/grammar into her articles) put together that aus v nz scorecard graphic there featuring noted kiwis de Grandomme and Williams

Hardly scored a run last season in county championship.

If Charl can help Nortje find a bit of movement then he will become lethal. He is effortlessly fast.

Bit shocked Wally's bowled percentage is so high.

Less so with YJB's, admittedly.

Doesn't learn, does he? I know a few journalists have alluded to him being maybe not the deepest thinker, but one doesn't need to be Wittgenstein to realise perhaps the drive early doors isn't the go if it's constantly accompanied by the death rattle. Surely even Pavlov's dogs would get the connection eventually?!

At least his lack of runs won't muddy the waters for the Pontiff's return. Although young Zak Crawley might be wondering what Jonny did to leapfrog him in the pecking order.

England should play a Boxing Day test in SA every year. So so good waking up every morning to a live test over Christmas.
