***Official*** England in Pakistan

Just goes to show that all these people who say that Pakistan are "unpredictible" (brilliant one day, horrible the next) are so far off the mark, and need to update their assessment. In my view, Pakistan are a pretty ordinary team, who don't have much heart.
But one only has to look at the India series to see that they were as unpredictable as ever there.

Tresco was dropped by the keeper. Only a half chance though. The LBW of course, remains speculation. I'm sure you would agree that to reach an opinion based solely on a front on shot is not likely to be conclusive.
Yet that is what the umpires have to do...

If Tresco keeps going and follows the trend, he is practically certain to outscore every other England batsman ever, and to score more tons than any previous England batsman.
And Richard will still maintain that he's rubbish...

As far as I'm concerned, England are 166/4 with Trescothick out lbw to Kaneria for 48. The bloody poms never fail to catch match-winningly lucky breaks. They did it with McGrath stepping on that ball, Kasper getting out 2 short, etc. This time it was probably due to them bribing Bowden in order to continue the prosperity of English cricket. Or maybe Bowden's just a bloody idiot.
Or 18 runs too many...

hmm i dunno, i dont think it would be less effective for England if they had Harmy 9, Jones 10 & Hoggy 11.
I disagree.

Hoggard can stay there for an hour with a top order batsman - thus allowing a lot more runs than if the Harmison and Jones go in and bat in their more expansive styles.

Then when Hoggy has wound the the bowlers up so much (remember that spell McGrath bowled to him in the Ashes?!), the other 2 can come in and attack them!

some true ***** written about tresco being "lucky".....almost every batsmans innings has one call that could have gone against him but didn't.

and lets not forget that luck has been on the side of every team in the world at some point or other...to suggest its been even a minor reason for englands success is a nonsense...its because they are talented, focused, dedicated and brilliantly well prepared.

Seemed to keep Gillespie in the Australian side for a long while in the last year...
Please dont compare the loyalty owed to a guy with 250 test wickets at 25 with he who shall not be named.

Totally different class of cricketer.

Obviously a lucky cricketer until it ran out this year and all the gift lbw's from bought out umpires dried up.

(yes, I know that's nonsense but it's of the same standard as the utter garbage written about Trescothick's career by some).

I dont understand why Tresco is so disrespected by so many, some so-called English fans included.

For mine, he is clearly the most solid and reliable English batsman, a view backed up by the fact that he has just become the first Englishman ever to score 1000 runs in a calendar year 3 times in a row.

As to luck, if youre facing that many balls, obviously youre going to need a bit now and again. But history shows that luck generally evens itself out over the course of a career as long as his.

We dropped him.

What's your excuse?

Ohh, that's right. His testimonial mugs are cute.
I notice Brett Lee hasn't been dropped after Ashes despite Averaging of over 40 and having an economy rate of over 4.25.

Could it be that he contributed well with the bat giving balance to the lower order, got important wickets at times, bowled better than the stats might suggest and oh yeah depite being rubbish Australia have no one better to replace him.

Ah where have i heard that before. Hmmm

Basically he is dissed on here by an Englishman from Bangalore and an Englishman who really really really wants to be Australian (just take the bread, that'll do it) but he supports Scumchester so his opinion about any sport can be discounted.

Oh, and by a Yorkshireman.

BARNES OUT
Man, you English dudes are quick to temper.

There's no doubt Marcus is one of the best openers going around, why on Earth Gayle was playing for the World XI and he wasn't is beyond me.

Ahh, I do hope people realised my irony with my post about Banger, its hard to tell with various language barriers (how do you converse with Australians?).

I think when he finally breaks the covetted 50 barrier average wise, in about 2 years at this rate, he'll finally be considered great.

If you're referring to the ODIs, Gayle was the best opener from those chosen. If anyone should have been replaced it should have been Sehwag, as countless people have suggested including Indian supporters as myself.

I don't see what Tresco's test form has to do with ODIs though. Though he's been great in ODIs too.

He looks to have revamped his game and added patience to his armoury. For a guy known to be lazy outside off stump for his entire career its quite a transformation. He now seems to have v good knowledge of where his offstump is, and has no troubles picking off the bad ball. Vast improvement..
