but in a way its funny, Trescothick again has proven he's got to be the most luckiest batsman in the world. Either he gets away with drop catches or a poor umpiring decision, but at least he cashes in...

IIRC Dravid is the luckiest batsmen in the world, according to Cricinfo's column on the subject anyway

Early in his England career he was out a number of times in freak (unlucky) ways, so he probably deserves some luck.

Is it me or is Trescothick becoming much less susceptible to the stock ball outside off stump? The pakistanis definately had a plan to bowl outside off stump to him but he just kept leaving it.
I think that's why he's hit such great form in the last year. He's become more patient. Opponents assume they can get him out just by bowling outside off, and when they discover they no longer can, they have no backup plan, and he can pick them off at will. I only counted twice in the Ashes series that he got out in his usual fashion, out of ten innings, which for him is a massive improvement given his previous record against the Aussies.

ME Trescothick c Arnold b Hettiarachchi 23 (England in Sri Lanka, 2000-01, 3rd Test)

ME Trescothick c Gilchrist b Warne 32 (The Ashes, 2001, 3rd Test)

ME Trescothick c Gilchrist b Warne 63 (The Ashes, 2005, 3rd Test)

ME Trescothick b McGrath 41 (The Ashes, 2005, 3rd Test)

Some dismissals to challenge this view ;)

not as often as Tres
There's some absolute garbage being spouted in this thread at the moment - and there's one common denominator to just about every nonsense statement.

We'll stick with an ordinary player rather than take the risk that his replacement is worse.
Seemed to keep Gillespie in the Australian side for a long while in the last year...

Err yea, Matthew Hoggard has a FC HS of 89* as well...
Hoggard's batting has come on a great deal in recent times - another case of the player fitting the role required.

Perfectly good and the right choice at 9 for England as well.
hmm i dunno, i dont think it would be less effective for England if they had Harmy 9, Jones 10 & Hoggy 11.

Shabbir's list of Test Match bunnies:

3 CO Browne, K Mahmud, M Rafique, JDP Oram, T Baisya
2 CH Gayle, RD King, RJ Peterson, RR Sarwan, GC Smith

So you either need to be a) crap, b) a left hander who plays too many shots, c) both or d) Ramnaresh Sarwan
I'd say that Banger plays a few too many shots...

so far, even tho tresco's scored a century, ive been very impressed with BELL.

hes done a good job coming from alot of pressure due to his poor form. well played

Based on one innings where the ball didn't do squat and he had all day to bat - and had several lucky escapes before making an earth-shattering 71. Oh let me guess, only Bell is allowed to attract a decent delivery - whereas Collingwood gets to bat in a no-win situation (yet again).
If Collingwood had stayed in he'd have had all day tomorrow to bat, but he takes his Test record to 116 runs @ 16.57...

Mind you, an FC average of 33.46 hardly cries out to be selected ahead of someone much younger with an average of 43.04 (and less than 1000 FC runs between them...)
