You obviously didn't see Anderson in SA. A typical over:social said:One big eye-opener for me in this game is the realisation of how far Jimmy Anderson's stock has fallen.
Whilst Plunkett did well in the lead-up game and has taken a wicket here, he is barely more than medium pace and hasnt moved a ball off the straight and narrow.
Obviously, he has ability but he looks well short of Anderson's quality (that I remember anyhow) at present.
Psychological edge? The only psychological edge as far as Anderson's concerned is the knife-edge his confidence teeters on every time he runs in to bowl. One boundary and he's shot to pieces. Get his confidence up, and he'll do a good job - but right now he's still a bit of a gamble. Even more so than the uncapped Plunkett.pakster said:Got to agree here. Anderson would have been a much better bet and it was surprising to see plunket get the nod ahead of him, especially considering anderson seems to have a physcological edge over some of the pak batsmen.

Actually, he probably was, but there was no appeal. One Harmison delivery seemed to go off his gloves down the leg side.magsi23 said:Atleast he wasnt out caught and given not out

Imagine what he looked like 9 years agoClownSymonds said:Raza looks ridiculous. Almost like a teenaged bowler with poorly fitting batting gear.
Yeah, probably because he's going against Plunkett. England should have brought a front-line bowler on to face him first up.magsi23 said:lol. Raza not looking too bad though
Yeah, they probably should. I'd wager Flintoff will be on before too long.ClownSymonds said:Yeah, probably because he's going against Plunkett. England should have brought a front-line bowler on to face him first up.
Rubbish. He's easily a better choice than Plunket. Anderson pretty much ripped through the pak lineup in the WC - theres your psychological edge.Barney Rubble said:Psychological edge? The World Cup? Two and a half years ago? In a different format of the game? Since when the man has become a shadow of the bowler he used to be?pakster said:Rubbish. Look, I know Andersons no Simon Jones, heck - he's no Abdur Razzaq...but surely he's a better choice than plunket. Bowlers like anderson will get hit around, but they will also produce wicket taking deliveries. I dont see plunket getting many in this match.Barney Rubble said:The World Cup? Don't judge your opinion of Anderson on what you saw in the World Cup. He's not the same bowler now. He's more line and length, less wicket-ball/four-ball. He gets less swing, but a little more movement off the pitch. He's more accurate, but has probably lost an mph or two in pace. At least, that's all true from what I saw last season.
You're missing my point - Anderson isn't the type to get hit around and then produce a wicket from nowhere any more. He's more bog-standard right-arm away-swing, and we've got that already. Plus he can't bat.pakster said:Look, I know Andersons no Simon Jones, heck - he's no Abdur Razzaq...but surely he's a better choice than plunket. An ingenius plan by Bob Woolmer perhaps?ClownSymonds said:If Raza settles in and Pakistan don't lose any more wickets tonight, Inzamam's retirement could be a blessing in disguise.
