Thanks James, I felt the forum needed an Exeter City slant, as well as Somerset CCC

Exceptionally glad that I'm on a forum that will talk endlessly about the averages of respective wicket-keepers from county cricket, because most of my friends eyes tend to glaze over ,when I do that
Welcome to the forums mate, you're not the only Exeter City fan I'm afraid. :D

Look out for the Ginger Ninja aka Neil Pickup, he goes to uni there and is big fan. :)

Again i will say- go educate yourself before you have a rather ignorant sense of the english language and its applications. I am quiete tired correcting your English, frankly.
What does quiete mean sorry?

EDIT: sorry James, just seen your post, but the humour here is too much for me to resist.

There are plenty more flack - lovers on these boards. I lived within hearing distance of St James up until late July, a lot of good memories of the place!!

My squad would be

Vaughn
Trescothick
Strauss
Bell
Pietersen
Joyce
Shah

G Jones
Prior

Giles
G Swann
Flintoff
S Jones
Harmison
Hoggard
Anderson

Theres a need for keeping the spirit of the Ashes, but we need ready replacements for the likes of Geraint Jones and Ian Bell
Welcome onboard, sir! :)

I think you're pretty close with your 16, mine would just have the 2 differences: Collingwood ahead of Joyce (think Joyce would be better served on the "A" tour, he'll play more cricket there) & Read ahead of Prior. Actually I'd probably take Pothas as no.2 wickie, but he's a v long shot.

I'd agree with Anderson ahead of Tremlett as reserve seamer as he can get (at least in theory) more movement in the air.

I am not, and i repeat NOT a Flackie fan, big oaf that he is, our good form (2-0 up at the moment, no I don't go away) coincides with Flackie being dropped, thank god for that!! Still a discussion for elsewhere methinks.

Collingwoods not a test player, hes not a good enough bowler or batsmen, in my opinion! great one-day player, but no more. Joyce is an accumalator, we need a batsman like that in the middle-order, to complement our stroke-makers, hes nearly 27 now, so an "A" team spot is a little pointless really.

Yes the wicket-keepers a thorny one, but Fletcher doesn't believe Read can score test match centuries, and I agree. Foster and, Wallace had a big opportunity to score big runs this year, but they haven't done so. Prior has so I'd go with him, or a real outsider like O'Brien or Gazzard (bias being shown here as we need another zyder-drinker, or an Irishman, my ancestors crave it).

I've never seen Swann bowl, does he turn it much? Brown would be the more obvious choice, but his woeful batting probably rules him out!

I'd much rather have Gazzard than O'Brien. I used to rate O'Brien, but the fact that a) he's behind Geraint in the pecking order at Kent and b) that he bats on a par with Chris Read suggests to me that he can't be considered for England! Gazzard got an injury up at Grace Road yesterday tho, hopefully nothing serious (well, not that it matters for Somerset, they're hopelessly mediocre in everything anyway).

(Edit: Both are probably a fair bit worse than Geraint anyway.)

Well, Wessels is scoring some runs, but haven't seen him play. Be good even if only for trivial bores like me, "What father and son played for 3 different countries?"

i have got a strong feeling Prior may be selected over read as the 2nd keeper, simply because he's a better batsman...

Doesn't he only qualify as a Kolpak player?

Read did shell a couple of straightforward chances against Kent - although the talk was that they were chances 2 and 3 he had spurned ALL SEASON!

I don't think that's right. Word from Notts is that he actually hasn't been that great. Certainly the two occasions I've seen him on television he has not impressed - a very scrappy performance in a one dayer and then this match. He managed to get one of them on the wrists in exactly the manner of Jones' drop at the Oval. Although he did get both wrists to it :D

Well, it's what the commentators said at the time (actually they had just shown a replay of his first-innings drop, and the commentary was "..... Read said that was the second catch he had dropped all season").

The very next ball, you could almost hear "Oops" echoing around the St Lawrence Ground. :D

Pothas has a Greek passport IIRC, but I think he has now completed his residency to be eligible for us. His age will count against him, but he's a better keeper than Jones & arguably a better batter too, certainly at least on a par.

Not sure about Wessels jnr, I've seen him on Sky in ODs a coupla times & he looks to have some ability with the bat, but dunno if he's declared himself for England yet or not. Kolpaks have to appear for FC teams in their own countries as "overseas" players but I don't think he's played any first class cricket outside of England, so it's all hypothetical as of yet.

You're not really concerned though are you? It's his business not yours.
But if he goes on about "his team" as England in any future series it will be 100% wrong.
