I just realized something. This is Pakistan's first Test win against England at home in 18 years!!! The last one being the test where Qadir was unleashed on England and took 13 wickets.
really eh? vowww

that has been a horribly wrong wait hasnt it. but pak shd not be complacent. england is a top team and pak shd be prepared for a backlash come november 20/

Even a 1-1 draw in the test series will be a good result for Pak team, and really a very poor result for a team eyeing the top slot in test ranking.

I don't know what all you Kamal supporters are thinking. The guy's been given trial after trial in first class matches and has failed miserably time after time. Pakistan can't afford to waste a space again. I say this is the definitely the best team for the second test, as long as the conditions are similar to those of the first test.

1. Butt
2. Malik
3. Younis
4. Inzamam
5. Yousuf
6. Afridi
7. Akmal
8. Rana
9. Akhtar
10. Kaneria
11. Shabbir

Why Rana instead of Sami? Sami is extremely erratic, and can't be counted on for sustained support outside of a wicket-taking frenzy. Plus, Rana scored a century at Lords this past season, so he can be assumed to be superior with the bat.

Wonderful stuff! Great to see the young Pakistani guns do well, especially Salman Butt. This win reminds me very much of of their win in the 1992 WC; the young guns led the way with support from the older players (ironically Inzi, who batted well in the second dig, was one of the young guns of the 1992 win). They've worked so hard for this and have really come a long way to play as a team from when they were more a talented group of individuals in Australia. Great stuff and well deserved. I don't think England batted all that badly, either; just undone by a spirited and united team.

nteresting comment from Mohammad Akram - England lacking a middle order player like Thorpe, Butcher or Hussain...
And all throughout they were talking about how the fact that they've gone away from those guys and have played "positively" is exactly why they've managed to step it up a notch.

It's wonderful how the slightest difference means the same thing gets analysed in totally different ways. It's playing with fire and whinging when your fingers get burnt.

Exactly. If Udal and Jones had got us all the way then all these questions wouldn't be asked of England's style of play. Positive cricket has got us this far, and positive cricket will continue to take us places in the future. It just so happened that, on this occasion, we came up against a Pakistan side that played excellent cricket, better cricket than us, just as SA did last winter when they beat us. However, we won that series in the end, and I still have confidence we will win this one.

Does anyone realisticly see Collingwood playing the next test if Vaughan is fit?

i disagreed with his selection in the first place and he's done nothing to prove me wrong, his bowling is erratic and hardly used, his batting isn't test standard IMO and i don't see him scoring any 100s,at least he can field.

Excellent performance by Pak, great to see Akhtar at his rip-roaring best, lets hope he continue in the same vein.

Seeing as though I am far too poor to subscribe to Sky Sports, I had to make do with following much of this morning's action on Ceefax. Looking back, I think Ceefax definatley adds something special to a match, something which cant be provided by Sky Soprts with all their high-tech, flashy gizmo's. The black screen, the blue writing, the slow updates - it really does make fantastic viewing.

3 cheers for Ceefax.

Whatever it takes!!!
Well done, Pak. That yorker was one of the best I have seen in recent times. Hopefully, the other matches will be as close and as good as this one was.

Hopefully Collingwood won't play another test ever again. I love him, but he's not a test batsman.

I agree. Over the last few series, Cricinfo have also realised the benefit of going along the Ceefax path. In fact, on many occasions they've just done away with updates altogether and pulled the plug on the entire site.

I lost count of the number of times over the past year when England were 404 for Page Not Found.

There haven't been many games since then! After the 1987 fracas, we didn't tour Pakistan again until 2000.

I wonder how much of a backlash there will be. The fast bowlers can't do much better than they have done in these conditions. The spinners *should* improve as they were both pretty innocuous, but they're never going to match a wrist spinner.

I wonder how pakistan will approach this now. If they want to, they could easily win 3-0: just bring in Afridi as a 2nd leggie and make sure the pitches offer a bit. Alternatively, yhey could serve up 2 roads and settle for 1-0. Hopefully that won't happen.
