***Official*** England in Pakistan

1)Shoaib still bowled a lot of loose deliveries in the wrong areas
2)wouldn't it be better if he bowled straight up and down?

PAUL ALLOT and GEOFF BOYCOTT: why did they start with shabbir in the second session it makes no sense??!

WAQAR (in his aus-pak drawl): it was a smart move 2 start with shabbir

i dont know why but i found it hilarious

Crowd has been good for the 2 days unfortunatley they havent been able to lift the Paks.I saw a group of teenagers wearing Pakistan shirts chanting loudly i wonder if there was Shoaib or beleg among them since i believe they had gone to see the match.

It was good to see so many Pakistanis supporting England ;)

I feel very down today and its not completley due to the match situation .i find 2 very worrying signs for Pakistan.

1. Shoaib is bowling straight up and down stuff
2. England are picking kaneria without any fuss

If these two dont stand up then v r looking for a possible 3-0 whitewash because i dont think these batsman are gonna save us from Freddie and co .
well theyve faced Warne. Kanaria is childplay compared to him!

Just goes to show that all these people who say that Pakistan are "unpredictible" (brilliant one day, horrible the next) are so far off the mark, and need to update their assessment. In my view, Pakistan are a pretty ordinary team, who don't have much heart.
You're probably right, but I'm not sure that what happened today and late yesterday necessarily proves it. I think I'll wait on that evaluation until the end of the series. :p

I've seen none of this match, but England look to just about have this one just about sewn up, and should be able to build a very sizable lead.

Incidentally, why is Pietersen listed so late in the batting order, at number 10? Is he injured?

?

He's batting 5, sorry 6.

I think the guy doing the cricinfo scorecard couldn't be bothered to do more than minimal work and just swapped him with Hoggard 8-)

this is not meant to be offensive but why were some people predicting this to be a really close match?

the bowling attack of pakistan is clearly not a patch on australias and on a batting pitch surely that means we should defeat them, with RELATIVE ease, on form and ability...

I think the Pakistani bowlers need to show greater control. From what i've seen, none of them have been able to bowl anything resembling line and length for any siginificant period of time.

From the looks of things cricinfo have just swapped him with Hoggy instead of shifting everyone else down.

Well, I guess we're not used to having an 'all-conquering' England side, coupled with the fact that Pakistan are traditionally very difficult to beat at home, Inzy is class, we can't play spin, Danish Kaneria can be hot, Pakistan won the toss and decided to bat on a pitch that should take increasing amounts of spin and show indifferent bounce etc etc etc.

It's a good point. It makes a change that England can look forward to good batting pitches knowing that they will only serve to demonstrate their class. I guess people just still haven't got used to how good England are - with even signs emerging that they can cope with injuries as well.

lol...point.

but kaneria isnt in warnes universe and we played him fantastically (despite him taking loads of wickets).

i mean gillespie would have been better than those pakistani fast bowlers today and he was beasted during the ashes.

Ah, OK, thanks. Funnily enough, that could have entailed a little more work - you'd think they'd just preserve the same list of bats remaining, only with Hoggard missing from the list. Dunno how their software works though.

To tell the truth, for all Tresco's obvious fault, he's fast approaching 'world class' status in my eyes.
Sometimes I wonder how seriously to take anything you say as usually there's a tongue in cheek somewhere.

But surely there isn't much doubt about Tresco's claim to be world class.

Here's something I worked out a few weeks ago. Before this test, Tresco ranked 14th highest run-scorer for England all-time, with 5206 runs and 12 centuries.

This is the list of batsmen who scored more runs than him in their career, with the runs scored and number of centuries,
by the time they were Tresco's current age .

Gooch -- 2540 (4)
Stewart -- 1493 (4)
Gower -- 6444 (14)
Boycott -- 2609 (6)
Atherton -- 5243 (11)
Cowdrey -- 3820 (12)
Hammond -- 3168 (11)
Hutton -- 1345 (5)
Barrington -- 1045 (5)
Thorpe -- 3452 (6)
Compton -- 1864 (8)
Hussain -- 1391 (5)
Hobbs -- 2022 (5)

In other words, comparing Tresco a few months short of his 30th birthday against everyone who has ever played for England, Tresco is the third highest scorer (beaten only by Gower and, marginally, Atherton), and only David Gower had scored more tons. Nine of the thirteen who have scored more runs than Tresco scored more than half of their runs after they passed the age of 30.

If Tresco keeps going and follows the trend, he is practically certain to outscore every other England batsman ever, and to score more tons than any previous England batsman.

So, 'fast approaching world status' seems a bit of an understatement. More like 'vastly exceeding the standard for world status' perhaps?
