Whatever it takes!!!
lol, but I would still like to see Pieterson up at 4, Bell can be sandwiched between the two Ferraris of your middle order, KP and Freddie.

I don't think Hameed is good enough to succeed against really good attacks. Umar may be a different case. Anyway, I rate Shoaib Malik and Butt ahead of those two, but I still think Pakistan should have, somehow, found a way to fit in Afridi and Asim Kamal.
The only way to fit both in is to either make Younis Kahn keep, or make one of those two open. You can't drop Inzy, Mohammad Yousof or Younis Kahn.

Does anyone agree that the following Pakistan lineup would have been much more effective?

Taufeeq Umar
Yasir Hameed
Younis Khan
Yousuf Youhana
Inzamam-ul-Haq*
Shahid Afridi
Kamran Akmal+
Mushtaq Ahmed
Shoaib Akhtar
Shabbir Ahmed
Danish Kaneria
Not really. Butt and Malik actually did well at the top of the innings, so why change that of all things? Asim Kamal being dropped is an absolute travesty, so he really should be in the side somewhere.

As for Afridi, his selection doesnt really suit the balance of the rest of the side. Mushtaq and Kaneria are already in that side, so hes leg spin wouldnt really be useful, and he surely wouldnt make the side on batting alone of the likes of Kamal and Malik.

I agree with the bowling attack, though.

I would have probably dropped Butt, but he has done well now... I am sure the Pak selectors wish they had the super sub rule going in test cricket........ :D

It's a technicality also, but Bell was batting at 3 ;)

Kind of. Still no Asim Kamal is odd, and the Pakistani openers did perform in the 1st innings. Apparently Umar has been useless lately hasn't he?
Shoaib Malik is a makeshift opener, and surely cannot be seen as a long term solution. Asim Kamal would have been probably my first reserve as a batsman, but who would you drop to accomidate him? This bouncy wicket appears tailor made for matchwinning spinners like Mushtaq and Afridi who depend to a large extent on bounce - they would surely have caused England more problems than innocuous bowlers like Sami and Malik (as I write, Malik strikes ). What is Hasan Raza doing in the team?

I didn't realise how bad Taufeeq had been recently. Maybe Salman Butt is a fair selection then, especially considering he got 70 odd. :)

Pak pace attack has been really substandard, Sami bowled extremely poorly just sprayed ball all over, he has no clue as to who to bowl at test matches even after all these years. Shabbir also has not been effective, Danish too has so far proved to be ineffective.

Clearly Pakistan don't have bowlers to take 20 English wkts, in one test that is!!
