Billy's been poor for a while now. I remember reading Australia ranked him the worst umpire of the lot.

Anyway Bell has played very well this innings. Tresco obviously too.

Not excusing Ponting's actions, but what about the haranguing the mild-mannered Inzy gave Billy?

Bad manners seem to be catching at about the same rate as bad decisions.

I wonder on what grounds Billy turned it down? Not his best match so far
Missing Leg.

And anyway probably Billy's revenge for that ridiculous shout that Kaneria did earlier when Bell padded away a ball from 3 ft outside leg stump :p

Yeah true, if he does it consistently then it'd be even worse.

Whatever it takes!!!
I think the umpiring has been rather poor in this match. But to give credit where it's due, Bell has definitely surprised me with this performance. I have to admit I didn't think much of him after watching him in the Ashes, but he seems to have a bit of potential. He still bats too slow for a no.4, IMO, but I suppose that could improve with more experience.

If I were the Pakistanis, I wouldn't get NEAR Akhtar. He's steaming, and looks like he's ready to kill someone.

Bowled off a no-ball, Akhtar you doofus.

Not really a problem with the rate some of the other English batters score.

Does anyone agree that the following Pakistan lineup would have been much more effective?

Taufeeq Umar
Yasir Hameed
Younis Khan
Yousuf Youhana
Inzamam-ul-Haq*
Shahid Afridi
Kamran Akmal+
Mushtaq Ahmed
Shoaib Akhtar
Shabbir Ahmed
Danish Kaneria

Supposedly a brilliant ball as well.

I only laughed because it's likely to be his last for 10 overs. :p

It was a Harmisonesque slower delivery. Went right through him. Brilliant ball, but it was only a matter of time before a wicket came off a no-ball.

Well he can bat at Jacques Kallis' pace all he likes if he gets the runs IMO :p

With most test matches ending in four days these days, you can afford the odd tortoise in the middle order ;)

I don't think Hameed is good enough to succeed against really good attacks. Umar may be a different case. Anyway, I rate Shoaib Malik and Butt ahead of those two, but I still think Pakistan should have, somehow, found a way to fit in Afridi and Asim Kamal.

Didn't pick it up because he didn't notice the sightscreen was in the wrong place. 8-)

Kind of. Still no Asim Kamal is odd, and the Pakistani openers did perform in the 1st innings. Apparently Umar has been useless lately hasn't he?
