That's the only score he's ever made. He's no better than Harmison. He's a number 10 batsman two places too high.

Reminds me of a funny story about Caddick and Botham.

Caddick was playing in a test match and was out wafting airily at a ball outside off stump after backing away to leg. Botham got quite angry and said that he was really annoyed at Caddick's attitude - he was perfectly capable of holding a bat and "had a test match 49 vs Australia to prove it". Caddick came back with the not unreasonable riposte that seeing as that entire innings (at Edgbaston 2001) had consisted of backing away to leg and trying to airily waft/'carve' the ball through the offside it wasn't the best example that could have been produced 8-)

does anyone else belive Boycotts comments about the Pakistan batsmen not taking enough 1s and 2s?

i think he had a fair point,Inzie seemed to get more singles that anyone and he's the slowest person in the team.

I think Pakistan could have batted a lot better, none of them apart from Inzie tried to attack the England bowlers. They showed a lack of application IMO,on such a flat pitch, they let themselves get bogged down then tried to hit a big shot to relive the pressure.England bowled well, but 260/6 is below par.

Well as the Sky commentators said. Most of the young Pakistani batsmen either block or play a big shot. They dont seem to be able to just tick over and accumlate like Inzy showed how to. England will know this too and did well with their bowling lines and fielding placements.

I remember that innings, and Caddick's dead right. :D

Although Caddick can actually bat - he has an FC HS of 92.

one thing i found interesting is how england have a bit of the fear factor that the aussies have enjoyed for so long.

a psychological edge before they even walk on the field.

Yes England have briliant self belief.

As Boycott always says though you cant judge a match untill both teams have batted and inzy could yet do a lot of damage. A lot depends on the England openers and i fully expect pieterson to put in a perfomance aswell

Typical attitude.

And stop it with the crap about Giles performing his role. What's his role? Dont take wickets, be economical because we'll give you 4-5 men on the fence, average teens with the bat, and be slow in the field.

Wish they had that job when I was playing. Id have chalked up a 100 tests.
LOL.

That is a bit generous.
Well OK, he's a reasonable Test no9. I have no doubt that within the next year or two he'll notch up his first Test 50, he got pretty close against WI last year.

From what I have seen of him he doesn't have too many shots. Solid defence but not much else. He is pretty much a walking wicket IMO. Eventually he will not get in line with one and get a edge to the slips. If he gets a 50 it will be a pretty slow one i would imagine.

Yeah - but Gillespie's got a couple, so I can certainly imagine Hoggy getting one sometime. Even McGrath's got one, surely that means anyone can! :p (and before anyone says it, yes I know his batting's got a lot better).

Hoggard is basically a no11, who bats at no9 (or 10 if Jones isn't playing) because him batting there better suits England's purposes (it is less likely that Harmison's and/or Jones' run making potential will be stifled by having to bat responsibly to support a proper batsman).

He's definitely better than to be classed as a "walking wicket" though.

Did enough to cream the ball through the covers at Trent Bridge in the 4th Ashes Test. :p

To be fair, Harmison, Jones and Hoggard are all pretty capable with the bat shown against their gutsy batting in the Ashes. Neither can be described as a "walking wicket".

Jones has got to be one of the better no 11s in the world.

Damn good effort by England against a reasonably poor Pakistani team. Would be surprised if Pakistan won a match this series.
