You don't get it. Things are different in certain parts of India, especially at certain times. Assam is a rain-heavy area where one should be absolutely confident of a rain-free period to have cricket. Same goes for other parts of India at certain times of the year.
Well maybe they where confident, predicting the Weather isn't a 100% accurate science.

That said, if the BCCI want to give it a shot in places like Assam once every few years that makes some sense, I guess.
I think that is the main point....keep the public interested

I'd agree with you, but the BCCI has shown stupidity in the past with scheduling matches in Chennai in supposedly "rain-prone" times of the year.
All you have to do is look at the trends over the past few years and you'll see why April is not the time to play cricket in Guwahati.

Certainly got a point, but after this, the BCCI should think twice about trying to keep the public interested in places like this. They basically teased them and in a way cheated them, considering so many people came from far to watch. Tough situation to be honest. They were better off trying this in the rain-free months, October to February/March.

is it true they don't give refunds if the match gets abandoned without a ball being bowled?

That is true. They know people are going to come see cricket no matter what, so they can do crap like that. :@ :@ :@

Im sure i saw a comment from some official at the ground that said the match was insured against a wash out and a full refund would be given.

You also have to remember - tickets are expensive for your average fan in India. Many avid fans can go their entire lives without seeing an international match. Others, might see maybe one or two during their life. India is a diverse country, and people from Assam can't travel to Delhi to see a match. So they have to wait until one comes to Assam, and it may take years and years.

So you have people putting a large chunk of their earnings toward watching a match (as a percentage of their earnings, I bet its about 500x higher than your average English fan, imagine going to see a game with $2000 and it gets rained out, and you get no refund...).

I am not advocating any type of violence whatsoever, but I can certainly understand their frustration.

Telegraph is reporting that they will make an exception this time because of how outraged the crowds were. So they will at least get their money back :)

This is the reason why I keep saying BCCI should be taking immense responsibility when planning cricket matches in India. Each match means far more (not on cricketing terms, but for the fan base) when it's being played in India as opposed to other nations. A rain-out is not something that can be easily excused in a country with so many cricketing venues and where rough weather is often very predictable. The BCCI should be spending all that money they generate in the right areas. Yet, despite having the largest fan base to serve, BCCI hands out the most pathetic service. Shame on them.

Does anyone know if those damaged hawkeye cameras have been taken care of. Really looking forward to Dhoni playing in front of his home crowd, it'd be a pity if the match was hindered by the actions of the stupid Guwahati fans.

Dont think that the match was hindered by Guwahati fans- they only started going nuts when play was called off and the rumour of 'no refund' started circulating.

The other points are legitimate, but this one's ridiculous. How are forecasts two/three months ahead available in January?
No you cant forecast weather 2/3 months ahead, but you sure can spend few bucks in buying better ground cover or building a roof or covering the pitch.

I blame the BCCI for this problem. I just spoke to my cousin @ Jamshedpur where the next ODI is going to be held, He says the temperature is mid to high 40s, It will be incredibly hard to to sit for 10 hours in direct sun, there is no water, no food allowed inside the stadium, what are the fans going to do ? BCCI is the richest board in the world , just announced a 1 Billion USD deal, all this is worthless if they cant provide their fans some comfort.

Fans are also upset that Rahul Dravid is not playing. Isn't it cheating the fans, when you charge Rs. 800 for a ticket and then your best player and the captain isn't even going to be in the town.

No I meant the Jamshedpur match being hindered by teh Guwahati fans destructive measures in the last match (or non-match, rather).

Fans may not realize it, but playing him continuously and not giving him rest might have worse effects and lead to his performance dipping or an injury development. That would be cheating the fans far more. Besides, it's not like the replacements are trash ... Uthappa can put on a show for the crowd I suppose.
