The fans reacted in the wrong manner and i feel that the BCCI should seriously consider whether another ODI should be played there for a very long time. Also, how comes Andrew Strauss was going to be the captain today.surely they should have just let Flintoff finish the tour being captain.

They were going to rest Flintoff. He'll probably play the last two though, now this one's been cancelled.

Frankly, the BCCI are a lot dumber than the bottle-throwing crowd. After all, what gave them the idea to host a match in a place where it rains with such regularity? When weather forecasts predict rain on the day? Where facilities are not yet up to the mark? Tickets for an international match, especially ODI tickets, are very expensive, and given how rarely the people get a match to watch, this is as bad as cheating them. They could have been better off travelling elsewhere or watching the action on television. Besides, no play was disrupted!

The other points are legitimate, but this one's ridiculous. How are forecasts two/three months ahead available in January?

Is there some kind of jab they give you in India than turns every cricket fan into a complete moron?

Jeez, it rained, get over it, don't go spitting your dummy and throwing rocks at people, it's a game for christ sakes.

That's pathetic. Your pathetic.

These people deserve no sympathy, the complete ****-wits.

They spend four hours in the rain, who's fault is that? Is it the stadium's? Is it the BCCI's? No, but these trolls decided to act in a worse manner than football hooligans and tear up the ground.
My bad. When I went to sleep all I knew was that they were frustrated and a few plastic bottles had been thrown in the field. At the time, I was sympathetic towards their frustration and concern.

Violence, destroying cameras, injuring policemen ... that's simply inexcusable. Didn't realize these fans are so pathetic. Apologize for the offending comments.

When the organizing cricketing boards are aware of a rainy forecast, yes it should stop international cricket at Old Trafford.

Bye Bye New Zealand's Test status.

Don't act as if the fans had no reason to be frustrated, they surely did. We've seen it time and again: the BCCI planning matches in venues without paying attention to the forecast. I don't know if these fans get refunds, but the BCCI sure treat fans like trash.

As for the fans behavior, that was truly disgraceful as well. Chanting and throwing a few plastic bottles on the field is no big deal, but when it comes to damaging cameras, injuring policemen and setting the stands aflame .... bizarre and inexcusable. Last night I felt sorry for these fans, now I hope they don't get to watch cricket for the next 5 years.

Well if you've got a rainy country in general, that's a different issue, you live with it. When you have so many possible venues and one of the matches is a rainout, it's really stupid because it's really not that hard to see the forecast and choose a different venue. The fans have been cheated, but in this case they responded by proving they didn't deserve cricket in the first place.

After THAT kind of behavior, you bet they don't deserve cricket. Also thanks to them the next game at Jamshedpur might be affected as the run out camera were damaged and if they are irreparable and irreplaceable in time by 12th, according to ICC rules no game without 3rd ump , hence kiss the Jamshedpur game bye bye.

A weather man cannot accurately predict a week in advance.

So how could he predict 3 months or so?

Assam (Guwahati) is traditionally rainy at this time. It has happened before with Chennai too. Lots of people are aware of the monsoon patterns in India, this is not the typical weatherman's weekly forecast we're talking about here.

There's little chance a weatherman would be able to give you more than a "don't-quote-me-on-that" guess, three months in advance.

You don't get it. Things are different in certain parts of India, especially at certain times. Assam is a rain-heavy area where one should be absolutely confident of a rain-free period to have cricket. Same goes for other parts of India at certain times of the year.

That said, if the BCCI want to give it a shot in places like Assam once every few years that makes some sense, I guess.
