how does someone with as pathetic a first-class average as that (blackwell) make it to a national squad?
Plump player quota.

Particularly with Freddy losing so much weight over the years and Key out of the team now.

He also helps fill the dirty slogger quota.

Deano speaks on how to make big scores you have to let balls go. Explains perfectly why Jaffer gets big scores at the domestic level and Dravid in test cricket.

I reckon Panesar fills that one reasonably well and actually has some talent, no?

Surely you could pass Harmy as that?
Especially if the quota was "dirty slogger that gets runs" quota :p
Harmy, Pietersen, Blackwell...they're all the same really.

One of the classiest orthodox openers innings for India in a very long time - Jaffer's knock today.

Anyway I'm obviously fairly disappointed that India didn't bowl out England earlier in the day for a smaller total (particularly since it cost me $10), however Collingwood's knock must be given a lot of credit and I'm also disappointed I didn't get to watch his knock live as I was at uni and then cricke training. It would have been great to see him get to his 100. Harmy's knock too would have been some entertainment. Regardng Panesar's batting, is he as much of a bunny as I have been lead to believe from reports (Is he in the McGrath/MacGill class? Where he can still get some runs, but equally look hopeless on the some occasions).

Regarding India, absolutely delighted with Jaffer's knock today, and Dravid has done what he always does, but that doesn't make me any less appreciative of him. Lovely stuff. Sehwag out early was disappointing, but fair play to England, terrific plan to get him out going for the drive on the up. That being said, I still think India are in a very strong position with Sachin and Laxman still in the shed (plus the others who can obviously bat as well). A good platform has been said, and even though England for at least 60-80 more runs more than I think they should have, India should still be reasonably happy with the day's play. Collingwood just played really really smart test cricket.

Not yet they're not. It is fairly even at the moment and India have to score at least 450 to be in a better position than England, given India bat last and would be chasing.

firstly welldone to Collingwood on his brilliant batting display and good work to the tail end batsmen.. they gave good support to colly along with Harmy who kickstarted the runrate..

and now to Jaffer, well played.. i was quite impressed with his stroke play... all in all a good comeback match to play.. and Penasar was also impressive..

Yea but you also thought England would score less than 340...
You give me a post where I said they'd make less than 340, and I'll give you a pie. The odds were fairly decent just before Freddy went out so I thought I'd have a go. A few minutes after I made that bet Freddy fell, and so did a few other wickets. Seemed an alright bet, just didn't work out. I still thought, with Freddy going alright, England were going to score 350-360.

Then again, I seem to be able to credit the opposition when they do well. I'll put another bet on, $10 says you've never done that before and won't do it in the near future. :)

Regardless of whether he thought England wouldn't score less than 340 after day 1, I wouldn't believe any one who claims he genuinely thought England would score more than 340 after day 1.
