And in getting them out he will be helping the team WIN the matches for India.

*cheers*
And by being a "crap bowler with glorified stats", he will help LOSE matches for India when he plays against teams that arent minnows or England.

I'm starting to think we should have an official Irfan Pathan thread... he seems to get discussed at length in about 50% of the threads in cricket chat, and it just drowns out any other discussion.

he's not a crap bowler ... he's not proven against non-minnows ... and right now, he's helping india win games

So Pathan should only be played against minnows and teams like England and Pakistan!

Hmmm... you may be on to something there...

Or only against minnows, England, and Pakistan on wickets that help bowlers.

Yes like the current test match wkts which is sooooooooo much pacer friendly.

Flintoff actually thought that he was playing at Lords when he saw the pitch at the toss yesterday!!

Which makes him as good against non-minnows as me. I took 5 wickets against Kenthurst, so Im sure I'll be able to reproduce it against South Africa when I get the chance. The difference is, Pathan has had his chance against the top batting lineups and failed... I havent. So Pathan is a proven failure, and I'm only a potential one.

Seriously though, Pathan is a good prospect. Has a nice action and gets plenty of movement. He just needs to be more consistant... he looks decidedly innocuous sometimes.

Thats why he listed England. The condition of "wickets that help bowlers" was only placed on matches against Pakistan. He can play against England whenever he wants.

You don't get it do you?

When England is involved, it doesn't have to be pacer-friendly. England are crap with stats inflated by the Ashes. That's why it's England AND Pakistan on wickets that help bowlers.

I hereby deem you to be the official moutpiece for my mind, because we think alike and you get me.

Out of curiousity, do you enjoy moonlit strolls down secluded beaches?

Some of the Pak batsmen in Butt and Yousuf are Pathan's bunny, so regardless of the condition of pitch i would like to see him play matches against Pakistan

Pathan has dismissed Yousuf a few times, but Yousuf actually averages 32.75 against him, so to see that he is "his bunny" is being a harsh!
[.
And considering 2 of his innings were played on roads..... IMPRESSIVE!

English is annoying like that - there arent enough grouping symbols to be clear all the time, especially if people ignore your commas.

For example, when you said:

Or only against minnows, England, and Pakistan on wickets that help bowlers.

You could have meant:
1. against (minnows, England, and Pakistan) on wickets that help bowlers.
2. against minnows, England, (and Pakistan on wickets that help bowlers.)

Your comma before the word "and" signified that you meant #2, but as was demonstrated, not everyone looks for that and hence confusion often arises.

Out of curiousity, do you enjoy moonlit strolls down secluded beaches?
Who doesnt?

So you're happy to count the two innings that were played in bowler friendly conditions, but not the two that were played in batsmen friendly conditions?

I'm not getting into this argument, but the "batsmen-friendly" pitches were far more outrageous than the "bowling-friendly" pitches. Dead tracks like those have rarely been seen in history, while the bowling-friendly track wasn't ridiculous, just some good bowling by Pathan early on and Asif throughout the match.

Most of the matches that were played between the two countries had little for the pacers, however the first two matches of the recently concluded Indo-Pak series were unique in the sense that they happen to have been played on surfaces that can be described as "graveyard for bowlers".

Whatever it takes!!!

Lol. Well I'm glad you said that because you saying he couldn't bat resulted in him putting a string of scores together.

At the least, all he'll have to do is get the ball to the otherside of the pitch (nevermind the pace) to Strauss, Pietersen and Geraint Jones, and let them throw their wicket away for him.
It has worked like a charm, AGAIN. :D

Pathan with an impressive bowling performance with the old ball. :)

What's with all the Pathan hatred here?

Either people are overrating him or underrating him. He is not nor will he ever be A GREAT OPENING bowler. What he can become if he continues improving as he has been doing recently, is a GOOD opening bowler. If he can swing it both ways at 80mph, that is still pretty good, esp.if India unearth a couple of good fast medium bowlers to partner him. Plus his batting and fielding are more than decent. I would think he would a more than useful guy to have in the side, esp. in ODIs.

He should be utilized by Indian team as an allrounder (comming at seventh slot behind Dhoni) and first change bowler to SreeSanth and Munaf Patel.
