International Coach
He's yet to make his mind up on the paternity leave I think. Though to be honest, after Strauss did it and Vaughan I can't see Freddie not taking leave either. :(

I'd imagine we'd go Collingwood if he did. Fletcher would want someone who would shore up the batting.and possible fill in some overs. Other option would be Plunkers at 9 to offer bowling with ability to hold a bat.

LOL @ Udal. Then again, if another spinner is to be named and Giles and Jones likely to be fit, Udal will probably not get a game Other than that, no real surprises for either squads.

btw isn't Rachel Flintoff due to give birth around the time of the 3rd test? Any ideas what will happen if Fred takes paternity leave?
We will lose.

They keep on putting up Giles average as 45.89 on skysportsnews, I know hes not great, but no need to take the p*ss.

Bloody hell it's gone up that much?!? I thought he was still just hanging on in the late thirties, well might as well ring up Tuffers see if he fancies a game in India.

No, its just a mistake, I just think its funny. Its been up there for hours now, maybe I should e-mail them.

Whatever it takes!!!
sounds like a good squad, but it is funny to see Udal there. Another batter or pacer would have been a better option.

In that case, would England help themselves a little more by picking five seamers of varying styles?

No, because the only style we've not picked is the "relies on batting errors and uneven bounce to take wickets" style, and would necessitate picking Kabir Ali.

Don't know so much - there's no "bowls with right sleeve tightly buttoned down at the wrist just in case someone thinks my elbow's not straight" Kirtley type - and no beamer specialist either.

Oh yes there is - I forgot Simon Jones is back.

They're leaving a place open for a "third" spinner, apparently Loudon, Panesar or Blackwell
Why leave it for later? Its not as if England is having county matches right now or some thing that the assessments will change much.

I'm not sure myself - unless they want to have some (chuckle) 'variety'.

Maybe they'll only bring Monty Panesar in if Giles is unfit - or maybe they want to have a left-right pairing but dont think that Giles will be fit enough to play all three tests - either way, I fully expect Udal to be adding to his number of caps.

I just hope he adds to his number of wickets.

Well to leave Darren Gough out of the One day squad is Stupid, The Bloke is still our Best one day bowler, so what if he wanted to do Comedancing but he deserves his place in the one day squad.
Far from the best ODI bowler available - have you seen how rubbish he's been the last 18 months?

As for the "so what if he did come dancing" - he told the selectors he wanted to miss the tour to spend time with his children - how exactly is doing that show spending time with his kids?

James Anderson should be in the test Squad he is still our best young bowler...
If you remove Plunkett, Tremlett, ...

Solanki left out of the one day squad in favour of "Big Hitting" Bell smacks of Desperation
Solanki who's been a failure throughout his career you mean?

And who's mentioned Bell as being big hitting? For the record, Solanki's S/R is 72.27...

who going to be the other spinner well it going to be Panesar we might as well give him a shot as Giles and Udal are useless
If Giles is still affected by the hip injury that is...

Udal is a lucky, lucky boy. Looks like Fletch & Gravers have bought the "Pakistan pitches were flat" line.

An interesting insight in The Guardian today from Mike Selvey as to why Loudon may no longer be the spinning back up: it's because he chucks!

"In Pakistan Alex Loudon was the preferred option but it seems as if he might be more suited to the limited-overs game. Moreover, despite good reports from the Indian spin academy in Mumbai where he went after the Test leg of the tour, he does seem to have the sort of problem with his action that has afflicted South Africa's Johan Botha, who was reported by the umpires and match referee after the recent series against Australia. In particular this applies to Loudon's doosra, which is now a fundamental part of the off-spinner's armoury, so England really need to nip this problem in the bud before they can take him any further."

well tbh the only reason i can see why Plunkett has been picked ahead of Anderson is his batting, he's certainly not showed anything when i've seen him to suggest he's a better bowler.

Forgetting Udal?
well no, has i said before him along with Gilo were ineffective in PAK due to those roads down their which they didn't get much assistance form the pitches, in India he will get assistance, so i think its fair to at least give him 1 more chance.

Ask any Worcestershire fan - they can't all be bad judges of a player, can they?

(looks up, sees Kabir Ali, withdraws point)
