Has your family lived in Hindustan since the days of the British Raj ?
Don't take my word for granted, but he must be an Englishman from the Cantonment area near Bangalore. My relatives in Bangalore knew some Englishmen in their school days, who came from there. The weather is very European, which suits them, unlike in, say, Mumbai.

How about Munaf Patel as a fifth bowler in Tests? He's faster than the current crop of seamers in the Indian side (although Zaheer on his day can also be very fast) and he's been taking wickets in this season at a good average, topping it with a six-wicket haul against last year's winners Railways. More importantly, he can also score runs, mostly in big shots. Look at him and he's built to play those shots without much effort, like Justin Kemp. His fitness may be questioned, but he's played five matches out of six (may be rested for rotation) and hasn't walked off due to injury in even one– that's a massive improvement. But of course, Joginder Sharma has been picking up a lot more wickets and has two scores over 50 (Munaf has just one), though he lacks the power. One of them should definitely figure as a fifth bowler in this series in all matches– that's value addition in selection.

3? whether or not flintoff can reverse swing the ball in the subcontinent is still a question mark, because he certainly didnt manage any of it in the series in pakistan. assuming the other player is anderson, he wont get a game unless one of the others is injured.
Harmison, Flintoff, Jones. That's three. In ascending order of dangerousness and reverse swing achieved.

Well actually A lot of Pakistanis pointed out before the tour that England would not reverse swing it as much as in the Ashes.....the Kookaburra ball doesn not reverse swing as much as the English duke ones.
true and that was exactly what happened. however sami and akhtar both managed to get the ball to reverse during the series, while flintoff didnt manage it at any point of the series. That was one of the major reasons why England had no answer to the pakistan batting.

Harmison has barely ever managed to get a ball to reverse swing in his career. Meanwhile Flintoff has only ever managed to get the ball to reverse during the Ashes series last summer, and whether or not he will be able to do so in India is questionable. subject to fitness, SP Jones is the only one whos managed to reverse the ball almost every where hes played, including on his A tour to India.

i was born in England, and i lived in Bangalore for 8 years. I do not live in India at the moment, and I am part Indian(on my mothers side). i hope that answers everything you need to know about me.

Monty Panesar who?

If he's bowling as well as his stats suggest he's a sure pick for the India tour is he?

Surely Udal's chance has come and gone now following his disappointing performances in Pakistan?

I expect Panesar will replace Udal in the squad.

However for him to make the team requires a rethink of the pace attack I think, unless Simon Jones is fit and we just slot Panesar in for Hoggard from the usual first choice 11.

He would be a sure pick for the India tour if he wasn't utterly useless at batting and fielding. And his bowling figures are distorted (albeit only slightly) by the fact that he played on raging turners at Wantage Road all last season. Still a very good prospect though, and will probably go to India - whereas Udal won't ever play for England again, I'd think/hope.

You'll probably play on raging turners all throughout India so that might be a plus ;)

How is Simon Jones? Fully fit again?

Looking promising as things stand, he's with the Academy players in Australia right now I think, working back up to full fitness before he gets back into match cricket. If all goes to plan, he should be fit and raring to go by the time the team for the 1st Test is named. :)

I should hope they aren't in Australia now that we've spent all that money on Lougborough!

Gareth Batty, Ravi Bopara, Jamie Dalrymple, Ed Joyce, Mike Yardy and Luke Wright along with Loudon went to India for 2 weeks, apart from that they've been at Loughborough

Mark Footit and Simon Jones are due to go to the MRF in India with Cooley to get back to fitness (they might be there already actually)

Move over Zaheer, Balaji, Agarkar, RP Singh and Nehra– Munaf Patel is the man to pick for the Test squad. Even as we read this thread, he's taken seven wickets in the ongoing Ranji Trophy match, against two-time champions and pool leaders Mumbai, on the back of 59 runs at a strike rate over 90.

Hopefully Punjab pacer Vikram Singh will be fully fit well before the series. The Indians can then choose a pace attack of Irfan, Munaf and VRV.
