You guys who are mindlessly supporting the English batsmen here and rating them above the Aussie batsmen, just stop. You're embarrassing yourselves.
It's only 1, the same 1 who still thinks England are a good ODI side.

On the basis of what KP has done so far over the last year or so. I noticed that the deliberately stupid imitation of foaming Warwickshire fan's logic went over your head as well...

As I've said already, KP has not averaged below 40 yet in any ODI series playing for England. I don't see him dropping off to such an extent that he ends up with a career average below 40. This means with his strike rate he'd be better than Ponting.

So would you have KP in the Aussie One Day side? Of course you would. Unless you're an idiot

I definitely would, but not ahead of the likes of Ponting. You can say KP is world-class because he is world-class, but please don't compare England batsmen in general to the Australian batsman. As pure batsmen, I'd only take Tresco in the Aussie side because Katich isn't that impressive and I'm not so sure about Freddie as a pure batsman.

I'd take KP in place of Martyn, Tresco in place of Katich and Freddy as a batsman would maybe sneak in in place of Clarke but probably wouldn't. Clarke's record has been brilliant for far too long now to think he will decline.

Ponting is untouchable, and Gilly is an opener anyway and there ain't no way Strauss is taking his spot, even if Gilly is out of form (though he's been mixed in ODIs).

One thing I'll say though, KP has the ability to go down in history as a better ODI batsman than Gilly. Whether he does or not is up to him really, and how often he throws his wicket away.

KP would have to go downhill drastically to not be better than Gilly. Like I've said before, I don't see KP averaging below 40. This is because he naturally plays in a one day mode with the added bonus in ODIs being that he doesn't get attacked particularly early on when he's vulnerable like he would do in Tests.

I think we'll see more players like KP in future whose natural game is to play in a one day mode.

He's only played 30 ODI! Let him play 100, and then we can make a judgement. Right now, he's simply in form.

3) Please, other than Freddy, KP or Tresco, list any world class ODI batsman England have.
Collingwood is a heavily underrated batsmen, world class definitely not but he is up there with Tresco at least, sometimes i feel that Collingwood is a better ODI player (batsmen and fielder) than even Freddie. The best part of Collingwood's game is he plays according to the situation and maintains a very healthy strike late without really biffing the ball, ala Bevan.

Have a look at Collingwood's batting record minus Zimbabwe and Bangladesh. Sure he's decent, even good, but nowhere near the class of Flintoff or Tresco.

Who cares if he averages 40 per series? Ponting is still outscoring him massively at the moment. Because Ponting has averaged >40 in every series of his career, Pietersen is better? Your logic is so biased, it's scary.

Speaking of Ricky Ponting and Kevin Pietersen, Dhoni is now ahead of both of them in the ICC ODI rankings. That's right, Mahendra Singh Dhoni is now ranked #1. :)

he's at 6, following dhoni, punter, gilly, clown & smith. dravid and yuvi round out the top ten after kp and sanga.

Dhoni being no. 1 is so ludicrous it's not funny.

Ponting is miles ahead of any batsman in either form of the game.

It's ranked on current form. Dhoni has been a magnificent player for India in recent times and has been a matchwinner. Simple. I don't see you calling the rankings ludicrous when they support your opinion.

Rankings are based on pure statistical information not any assessment of 'class'. There is no point complaining about it if any of one's favourites is ranked low/er. It isnt the first time this has happened. No ranking system that goes by pure stats can satisfy all except by chance.

So cool it mate.

Please don't see this as incendiary, but I'm surprised that Murali has retained top spot in the Test bowling rankings. It seems he hasn't done anything newsworthy for ages.
