***Official*** England in India

England might as well send in Kabir Ali to open with Trescothick in future, and Anderson at 3 - if we need someone to muddle around for a few balls at the start and then get out cheaply, it might as well be someone rubbish.

Can someone explain this to me - RP Singh is considered above Munaf for ODI and Munaf is preferred for Tests. I haven't seen either bowl enough, is that a justifiable selection process?

Munaf is injured. They probably want him fit for WI tour.

Well it's pretty obvious now why Pathan is so slow in tests. In ODIs he's going at 82-83, in tests he's going at 78-79. Obviously he's trying to save energy for a longer spell in the tests.

No, he isnt able to swing the red ball bowling in the 80s and hence bowls it slower.

A mate of mine was discussing the introduction of a pinch-blocker at the top of Englands oneday batting order to get away from the sort of starts we've routinely seen over the last 2 years. He suggested Giles. Thinking back 15 months, Jone's spell opening doesn't seem such a disaster after all.

I have to say, I really do love watching Pietersen bat, especially in an ODI when he's in his element. Just little things like that single he took to mid-off seem extra special the way he takes them on.

Interesting idea - I'd be personally inclined just to ditch Prior, move Strauss to 3, and give Bell a shot at the top of the order. He's solid enough, and when he wastes his wicket it's because of lack of concentration rather than anything else - hardly an issue in ODIs.

Alternatively, promote KP to the top of the order because he's the only one (apart from Tresco) who can actually bat against the new white ball - he's had enough exposure to it in recent times, that's for sure.
