Well, I was really asking What is a nigh****chman?
Oh. Really?

It just means they didn't want to risk one of the top-order batsmen towards the end of the day, so they chuck a tailender who can block in if a wicket falls towards the end of a day's play. Usually Hoggard does it for England.

Today's play may have gone in England's favour, but from an Indian fan point there are many positives to be taken out of it to go with the obvious negatives. The batting was well below par, no doubt about that. But some optimism must be taken from Dhoni's knock. It was a very mature, sensible knock and had he not ran himself out (3rd umpire still gave the wrong decision in my mind anyway) he could have taken India past 300. Obviously Pathan has to learn not to be an idiot and throw his wicket away but for a while he was playing sensibly too. The runs from the tail were again a bonus, but we're relying on them far too much lately for my liking.

But the biggest positive from today is easily that little session India had bowling at England. For ages India's new ball combination in tests has been either inconsistent or plain useless. Whilst Pathan really has fallen off and needs to improve a hell of a lot, a lot of heart should be taken from Patel and Sreesanth's start to their test careers. Sreesanth showed a lot of promise in the 1st test, and Patel's bowling was nothing short of fantastic in the 2nd, but tonight with a deficit of 121 runs, wickets were a must and the bowling had to be accurate from ball 1... and Patel and Sreesanth did exactly that. Particularly Sreesanth's 4 over spell, where he ripped out Bell and could easily have had Udal at least 3 or 4 times. When Yuvraj drops a catch you know India has been poor in the field, but despite my frustration with that catch going down, Sreesanth has been fantastic and after taking a little while to look over the day, the future looks bright so long as these guys continue to improve and get the attention they need to become test class fast bowlers to lead India into the next generation.

Plus, whilst 3 down would have been nice, with Udal at the crease tomorrow its likely England won't be able to attack from the get go which is what they want. Shah will be a key wicket tomorrow, hopefully India strike early. The game is obviously still in favour England's favour, but India are showing some fight, and at 1-0 up its not as bad as it could have been with a deficit of 200 and England none-fer at stumps.

It's beautifully set for tomorrow. Ideally, England will bat for another two and a half sessions and set India about 400. More likely, they'll subside for 150 and set them an all too gettable 270. Once again, they're left to regret the missed chances, but this should still be a very interesting finish. I wonder what the highest 4th innings scores are to win games at Mumbai.

Poor old Bell. I know he's batting out of position, but his dismissals have been so tame in this match. If Shah looks good again tomorrow, he might just leapfrog both Bell & Collingwood, come the summer.
