You must be joking...
No, I'm not and the figures....back me up.
Tendulkar has been patchy at best over the last two years....he has also not performed when the team has really needed him.....has he ever played test turning innings like Steven Waugh or Lara ?

Why do we keep picking him in the hope that's he'll fire and not give a chance to a talented young batsman like Rao or Kaif or Yuvraj ?

Let me also add that I think it would be best for Tendulkar and India if he retires from tests immediately and focuses solely on ODIS

lol, but seriously, I think VRV Singh has more potential than Munaf. But I have been wrong about such stuff before. :(
India also seem to have forgotten Aavishkar Salvi.....he unluckily missed the Austraia tour 2 yaers ago with injury and has been in and out of first class cricket.

But he has recovered & performed well for Mumbai this season and must again be a conteneder for the India test and ODI teams.....

I feel this test series against England will be particularaly crucial for the careers of Laxman and Zaheer.
I picked Zaheer for his expereince but if the English cart him, I willl replace him with RP Singh. Laxman was criticised heavily after Karachi and he needs runs against the English.

The good thing tho is that he tends to play well when his spot is questioned. :)
Both the 167 and 281 came after much criticism.

I think India will be on high about a good tour of Pakistan, and will easily thrash England.
Britts batters are gonna struggle against India's spin and pace, while Indian batters will face the English pacers with ease.

I'm expecting 3-0 result in India's favour!

India will have to play very, very well to secure a test series win.
England will have learnt lessons from Pakistan and will be a fit, highly motivated side.

And the tour of Pakistan was so-so not good .... we were badly beaten at Karachi test where a number of shortcomings in our team were exposed.

In fact the shortcomings in our test side have been there for a long while, they just came to the fore spectacularly in Karachi.

Obviously I'd like India to do well but we have to look at the cold, hard facts and make some tough decsions regarding the personnel in our team who are not performing even if they have "star" status.

I don't think England batsmen are capable of facing the deadly trio of Harb-Kumble on spin oriented Indian pitches, you don't learn over night how to cope with such class bowlers.

Also i think England batting is weak, they badly need someone like Grame Thorpe to strengthen their middle order batting lineup.

Can I just ask if anyone would pick Laxman over Tendulkar in their team?
No. I don't need anyone giving me statistics to show that Sachin is past his prime. He hasn't performed like a star over the past few years, but if you watch him play today you'll see that he still has it in him. Dravid-Tendulkar-Laxman should stay the way it is, that's one hell of a middle-order.

How's this for an Indian test squad:

Dheeraj Jadhav
Sehwag
Dravid
Laxman
Yuvraj
Dhoni
Pathan
Z Khan
Kumble
Harbhajan
Munaf Patel

Reserves:
M Kartik
M Kaif
Rudra Pratap Singh
V Rao

Left out Sachin as he's past his best..Ganguly and Gambhir are not test class
and we need a quick, right arm paceman in our squad - hence Munaf.

We can't be sentimental ....our test side needs revitalising after the hammering at Karachi so Sachin and Saurav have to go and Yuvraj must get a permanent spot.
Also Munaf will add variety to the bowling attack.

Playing four bowlers plus Pathan is a positive, attacking move and a different philosophy to the stale, traditional six batsmen 4 bowler theory.
Ganguly looked good against Pakistan, he should and will stay.

I don't want to see 3 spinners in the squad and I don't want to see massively turning tracks either. Sure we can provide some home advantage, but we should try to build a team that will do well on any track, against any opposition, in any country.

Gambhir, Jaffer and Jadhav should compete for the opener's spot and this time Ganguly should be a reserve and Dravid shouldn't open.

V Sehwag
G Gambhir / W Jaffer / D Jadhav
R Dravid
S Tendulkar
VVS Laxman
MS Dhoni
I Pathan
A Kumble
M Patel / Z Khan
Harbhajan
RP Singh / Sreesanth / VR Singh
Reserves: Y Singh, S Ganguly, opener (among the 3 above), seamer

Well Pietersen has had a haircut...thoughts?

Definitely an improvement. Hope he doesn't go the same way as the England cricketer who caught sunstroke after going shaven headed in the WI though.

btw PY, I love your quote about people's views of God & devil. Where did it come from?
It was said by a pastor called Stephen Currie (from NI) who came to my church a few weeks back. :)

Yeah I was thinking something similar myself, if you have to get rid of hair then why go so short that you're bound to get some form of sunstroke if out in the sun without the hat on.#

Beats the raccoon that was on his head before though. :D

Well with the indians looking like they will try and beat england via spin i wouldn't be susprised if he and flintoff came out to bat with only sun hats.

A certain Mr. Ian Bell looks to be taking on the mantle on Thorpe. Obviously the spinners are likely to really test England but I don't see any of your pace bowlers doing a Shoaib on us.
