Econ = 5.15, average = 32.31.scriptkidd said:This test is only in the 3rd day and India have 7 wickets in hand and hoggard seems deadly.
why he is not gonna play the ODI ??
He hasn't been as deadly here as he was at Nagpur. The delivery to Sehwag was a good one no doubt, but Sehwag played it stupidly, to Dravid that would be a regulation leave. Jaffer's was also not a great delivery. Definitely a dangerous bowler, but he's been gifted wickets in this test. As has Anderson ...scriptkidd said:This test is only in the 3rd day and India have 7 wickets in hand and hoggard seems deadly.

Dream On. Sarcasm will not make up for dismal performance or winning records. Great players always MAKE the teams they play in great. Go look up how many times Australia was in trouble and Waugh bailed them out.silentstriker said:Yes because if Waugh was on the Indian team in the 90's, we would have won three world cups, while Sachin, playing with Warne, McGrath, Hayden, etc would just have sucked and lost the ashes 5 out of 5 times.
In a test match you have to take 20 wickets to win. Even if play X scores 500 a team cannot win and thus the team cannot claim for greatness if the bowlers are incapable to take 20 wickets.JustTool said:Great players always MAKE the teams they play in great.

Does anyone actually give a **** about what any of the sky commentators say? having to watch dean Jones and Srinath(not to mention Arun Lal) commentate together is an absolute joke, neither of whom know field placings or anything else about cricket. Never did i think i would be relieved to hear Ian Botham on commentary. Hussain can be quite astute at times, yet it seems that when it comes to memory he is absolutely clueless. how hard is it to remember that it was not Kumble but Harbhajan Singh who destroyed England in the first innings at Mohali last time around? Especially when you were part of the game.JustTool said:Dean Jones, the former Australian Test batsman turned-commentator
i agree he is getting a kind of a free ride right now, but five years is a huge exaggeration.... he started losing his amazing consistency maybe a couple of years back but still played well enough to easily slot into the team.....it's just been the past few months where he's been really inconsistent.....Langeveldt said:So no matter how awfully he is batting, Sachin has a free ride in the test team until he retires, based on what he's done about five years ago?
id be interested in seeing a comparison based on innings as opposed to test matches. either way though, suggesting that someone is finished because he played in 1 more bad test match and averages 1.2 runs less is just a touch ridiculous.Neil Pickup said:Lara's worst run - Nov 97 to Mar 99: 15 Tests, 921 runs @ 35.42, 7x50, HS 93
Hayden's recent run - Oct 04 to Aug 05: 16 Tests, 842 runs @ 30.07, 5x50, HS 70
Sachin's current run - April 04 to present: 17 Tests, 691 runs @ 28.79, 1x100, 4x50, HS 109
This is a) longer and b) worse
because 3 months ago hoggard didnt deserve to be part of the team of the year. its only recently that hes added a new dimension to his bowling- i.e the ability to bowl with the old ball.Neil Pickup said:And three months ago I got shouted down for daring to suggest Hoggard as a team of the year contender...
or rather the only way he knows how to play (how not to play would be more appropriate) such a delivery.adharcric said:, but Sehwag played it stupidly,

Just as I was typing that, there goes Yuvraj to a short pitched one. I wish I was watching on TV at least.SJS said:or rather the only way he knows how to play (how not to play would be more appropriate) such a delivery.
The English bowlers have to be given credit for having sorted out Sehwag. He has always had a problem agaisnt the short ball but he hits so many of them for fours and sixes between thirdman and cover point, bowlers took a long time to realise that it has to be a short ball THAT CRAMPS HIM FOR ROOM and exposes his lack of foot movement.
Just digressing a bit another player who can be similarly handled is Afridi and to a lesser extent Yuvraj.
