Well Dhoni hasn't made a name for himself on non-subcontinental pitches, but that is irrelevant when it comes to this series. Its a home India series, and Dhoni is definitely enjoying himself with the bat in both forms of the game.

Its true dat he hasnt made a name 4 himself on non-subcontinental pitches, but he hasnt been given much of a chance. He's only played dat triangular series against WI and Sri lanka. away from home and dat too is subcontinental

Well I do think Indian fans will take to Freddy and Pietersen. Indian fans generally love characters. Warne always, and I mean always gets a great reaction when he goes there. The fans absolutely loved him during the Australian tour of India in 2004, and he embraced every moment of it. So in that aspect, I think they'll enjoy the "cricket is religion" aspect of the country if they stay positive. :)

Vaughan always tries to make it look like that England are in control and doesnt give away much when confronted by the media. He's just trying to stay positive. Heard that quote about how the fans in india will help england? Thats a load of rubbish! Those fans will help only india 100%. Everytime a english player takes a wicket or smacks a boundry, there will a demoralising pin-drop silence around the ground. How will that help England?
Because silencing the fans is an incentive. With 50,000 Indians screaming for a boundary, taking a wicket is all the more enjoyable for the bowler.

the majority of the indian crowd will support freddy etc but there is stilla huge no of the fans that are still unsporting and will boo them off, which is quite unfortunate, considering the fact that they r seen as fanatics of the game

not at all evil. I'm an indian fan but still respect the qualities of the players of opposing teams. Thats the true passion of a cricket fan.

Perhaps we do things differently here in the states...but

I don't give a crap if its Don Bradman playing my home team, he's going to get taunts and boos.

Fans make the home advantage...why give the opposing team anything?

My hope is that if a great batsman plays his last innings in India, and goes out with a magnificent rear guard century to save the game....that he would be booed out of the stadium.

Of course, the Indian team should get the same treatment overseas. Playing overseas SHOULD be hostile, thats the whole point. Its no fun if the atmosphere in Sydney is exactly the same as Lords, which is the same as Kolkata.

You should become a rabid football fan, they appreciate that sort of spectator - hopefully you won't grace too many cricket stadia in the future.

Should come to Exeter. That's what we do to our team when we win...

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realise what he was suggesting. Dhoni has far more to his batting that just a high strike rate, and whilst he's very inexperienced in test cricket, he's had a great start so far. In ODI cricket, an average over 50 with a SR over 100 suggests he wipes the floor with Geraint Jones.
He's not really had a great start to Test cricket, the only difference with him and the sort of record Jones has is Dhoni flogged 148 on one of the deadest pitches he'll ever play on. Other than that it is the same sort of cameo knocks Jones has played.

In Philadelphia, opposing fans are literally afraid to come watch an Eagles game at home. And though, I draw the line at any physican violence, taunts and mental anguish is part of home advantage.

Agreed.

Dhoni has batted all his life in the subcontinent. Given that, I would rate Dhoni's batting above that of Jones at least as far as subcontinent goes.

Outside the subcontinent, it is still to be seen.

You've not seen a South Coast derby. 100+ arrests, a few smashed-up bars, various hospitalisations and a large number of bricks through windows are the order of the day - as disgusting as it all is.

Err, I am not comparing hooligans or claiming philadelphia has a monopoly on certain types of fan behavior.. I was simply stating how home fans SHOULD behave. They SHOULD make the opposing team unconfortable and feel unwelcome....if it leads to a dropped catch or a lapse in concentration...you've done your job. It's called home advantage. I don't advocate anything physical though.

So you think the ovation the English fans (at the Oval I believe) gave Ambrose/Walsh and McGrath/Warne when they were walking off for likely the last time playing international cricket there was wrong. But rather they should have been boooed the crap out of?

Well I think that's plain silly.

Well, perhaps its not such a BIG deal if you do it AFTER the game. What is silly is to applaud someone for any reason during the game.

But even after the game, why give them anything?

Because its not war, its a game. A game to be enjoyed, and players of both teams entertain me when I'm at the ground and if a player of the opposition does something which earns them my respect, I will applaud.

But eh, each to their own I guess. I just think you should enjoy the game rather then aim to "take advantage of home advantage."

Dhoni has played the grand total of 6 test matches so far. Jones has had a lot more. I am still gonna wait before deciding who is better. Dhoni wipes the floor with Geraint in ODIs, though.
