Hang on. I thought it was all about test cricket for England fans. ODI's are meaningless.

I have heard this for years

Well seeing as I have already been in with no match for 6 months + and most agree with that then you are talking nonsense.

He's seems to have a bee in his bonnet about England right now. Pops in from time to time in the thread with the sole purpose of having a dig at England or their fans.

Just going what the majority of posts I have seen not just here, so you can relax on the tough guy act.

Nope, squad still learning etc

All Heboric and tec15 do is troll. Almost literally. Just go through their post history.
Source ?? . Tame compared to what i see on here. Heck if racial stereotyping can just be ignored I have a long way to go.

I'm not a fan of 4/5 match test series except for the Ashes. Big 3 may be big 3, but still, test series involving England and Australia in India should not consist of more than 3 tests. India should not play more than 3 when they tour England and Australia.

How good was that Mishra googly though? He's bowled mostly crap but that one to get Dawson was beautiful.
Extremely good. What made it good was the fact that he used it very rarely. I mean so rarely to an extent that batsmen probably stopped expecting it. And thats how the variation should be used by someone like Mishra who tends to be erratic every now and then. Don't even give a hint to the batsman that you are gonna bowl the surprise delivery.

Its a shame that commentators kept asking as to why he wasn't bringing out his googly too often. Its like they were expecting a googly every over. Thats not how it should be done. Mishra got it spot on today.

It must feel great for India to have Mishra as the 4th spinner. Sure he doesn't think the same, but fair's fair.

And they always moan on about Rashid (et al.) using variations too much!! The pundits/commentators just pull complaints out of their arses.

Whatever it takes!!!
The thing about Mishra's googly and Ashwin's carrom ball is that the line gives away that it is the variation, which means even if the batsman is not reading it off the hand, they can still set themselves up based on the line. So their answer is to just about shut it out completely so that when it does show up, batsmen have no idea it was coming. But still think Mishra's googly is hard to spot only for lower order batsmen and tailenders. Most top order batsmen are picking it in recent times. What has helped Ashwin is that he has enough variations even outside the carrom ball and he is more accurate and better at reading batsmen than Mishra. And gets better flight, drift and dip too. :p

And Lol @ Cook's comments on Jadeja. Guy is just so so sore as a loser. Seems to hate having to give credit to India this entire series and any time he has ever said anything it has been so grudging and always accompanied by the ever so important "in these conditions". Dunno if he was always this bad but definite signs that he is at the end of his captaincy career AFAIC. He sounds very cynical and jaded and the worrying thing from an English PoV is that it seemed to be that way from as early as the 3rd test mid.

That's not as easy a nick as it looks. When a keeper is standing up to the stumps, nicks that deviate that much not easy. The time between the nick and when it reaches the keeper is very little. A good keeper is expected to move with the ball (rise and move sideways) depending upon the movement of the ball as it deviates and rises after pitching. This makes sure his hands are in line (and height) of the ball when it touches the bat - after that a little deviation makes the ball land somewhere in the gloves. This moved considerably. He did well to move his hands after he heard the nick but the deviation was a bit too much. It would have been a super catch if he had taken it.

I have always felt Parthiv was not a good enough keeper to ever have played for India but this time when he has come back his keeping technique has been impressive. In this series his movement (or lack of it) with the ball has been superb. Some of the balls that have kept very very low have been collected by him with élan. He does rise for those low grubbers but his hands stay low and in line with the ball.

Dhoni does not do that which is why balls that keep low escape him more often than not.

It was actually Kohli's catch but Parthiv's movement was instinctive. No time to decide to leave it for the slip. The old Parthiv would not have reached it and India would have, probably got a wicket.

That was not an easy catch in my humble opinion.

Hi SJS.. great to see back posting semi-regularly here but I respectfully disagree. Not sure how much of the series you caught but there have been umpteen instances when Parthiv has not stayed down for balls he should have and grabbed at balls he should not have. I do not see any real improvement in his keeping technique which is obvious with the amount of diving he still does to take balls that only deviate a bit, compared to Saha or even Dhoni, who is extremely flat footed himself when it comes to moving with the deviation. He does not have the amazing skills Dhoni does as a wicket keeper to the spinners or the traditional strengths that Saha has as a keeper to spin. He grabs at the ball, gets himself into awkward positions and messes up more often than not. You can say he has improved in the sense that he makes mistakes around 40% of the time now compared to the 60% it was earlier but he is still nowhere near the international class keeper we need in the side.

And as far as that catch goes, yes, you are right in that he did move with inline with the spin and bounce but come on SJS, when we keep, we KNOW that a glove is always the easier one to catch than a nick, there are those few micro seconds more time to adjust and catch the ball off the soft impact than a hard edge or a fine edge, both of whom can cause deviation faster.

- Does any one know why Stokes didn't bowl more in the series? Niggles or tactical blunder?

- Kudos to India. Beating England 4-0, even at home is no joke.

- Very happy for Karun Nair. Hoping Sudeep Chatterjee gets drafted soon too.
