It's the nature of cricket in the subcontinent though. When pitches go, they go quickly.

Pretty sure there was a Test against the West Indies on the Tendulkar Farewell Series (might have been the one that was drawn with the scores tied) that was an absolute snoozefest for 4 days then all of a sudden 19 wickets went down on the last day. That sort of thing always plays on a batsman's mind. 100 overs in those circumstances is a long time to survive.

Except the pitch didn't go much at all. Apart from the bit of rough outside of the left handers there was nothing else in this pitch to trouble the batsmen. The fact that England lost on this pitch is something they really should be ashamed of, especially after being 100 for no loss at lunch.

It's pretty hard trying to bat out a game against spin like that imo even on a wicket that wasn't even that bad on day 5. You saw in the first test that India weren't exactly infallible to batting out 53 overs on a still fairly flat wicket - and that was against England's bowling. Ali and Stokes today when trying to defend were nearly out bat padding a load of times. I wouldn't really blame Ali for his dismissal today. It's a cliche but that is the way he has batted for 36 tests. Critique his general play sure, but in isolation today is not really any different to how he's played his whole career.

England tried to deadbat in Visak and got plenty of criticism for that. They tried a more balanced approach today where they still looked to score to keep the close fielders away - and still perished.

Things are likely to look better for England once the ODI series begins, but yea the long break might be a bit of a hindrance.

England with a good chance of winning the ODIs imo. I'd be considerably more disappointed if England aren't at least very competitive in the ODIs- than I will be with the test performance. Although it looks like there are only 3 odis which is a shame (said an Englishman for the first time).

Not convinced by Jennings but Hameed is class. Has the temperament for tests and will do well in the future in most conditions.

You should be. Jennings is also class and one of the few English players to emerge from this tour with any credibility. Averaged 64.50 last season, topping the county runs with 1548 including seven centuries!! You saw how he reverse sweeps. Great player.

Sure. Maybe after he plays some more. Hameed will end up having the better career( but then again, I said the same about Manish Pandey and Saurabh Tiwary ).

For me it is true. I can only speak for myself but I've never been that interested in the endless bilateral one-dayers, but I think they are popular among some people? They tend to draw big crowds in England. I will be watching the Australia v Pakistan test match and picking-up the English/Indian limited overs matches as highlight shows (if that!).

Twenty20, I couldn't give a toss. Hate T20.
