But not for reasons of lack of fitness or a pressing matter that would prevent him from playing competitive cricket. I made it clear to him that by pulling out of the camp - a CWBCC mandate - he was pulling out of the ODI squad, and potentially ruining his chances at making the World Cup squad.
True. However I still think the issue is more involved than detractors of Watt like to make out.

I think the key thing is that it's a personal issue and different people will have different feelings about it and what they would do in the situation. It's like walking. The important thing is that, if we voice our opinions on the matter, we do so with tact and respect.

Dauth defends captain
CW Red batsman Robert Dauth has come out in defence of captain Dave Watt.

"People are too quick to form judgments on Dave's decision," Dauth stressed in a press conference yesterday. "It's not as though he's turned his back on the CW XI. He has some issues with the coach - Pratyush Agarwal - and people should respect his decision to withdraw from the training camp." The CW XI bowler reportedly told the CWBCC he'd rather finish his contract at West Australia than attend a CW XI training camp.

"Some people would say he's mad in doing so - and I am one of those people. But I respect his decision, and I just hope it won't be too big a blow for his World Cup selection chances - as he's a key part of the ODI bowling attack, and he deserves the opportunity to showcase his bowling on such a grand stage," Dauth said candidly, "That said, I can fully understand his decision being perceived as a disrespectful snub. I can't say for sure whether or not that's true, but knowing Dave, I think he's just trying to make a statement about the new coach."

When asked what his own thoughts on Khaitan's appointment as head coach, Dauth was vague. "That's not for me to say, but I support the decisions made by the CWBCC and Mr. Agarwal fully."

No, it was actually at a post-game Derbyshire press conference. But I didn't think I'd need to put that in...

Watt "Top Bloke"

Kenny Dobson wears his MacDonald's cap fashionably backwards and refuses to wear his apron as he flips beef patties on a scalding hot grill. "Look, I dont care what youse blokes say, Dave Watt is a top bloke. I mean, give him a fair go"

When asked to further explain his reasons for labeling Watt a "top bloke" Dobson offered, "Look, youse are just trying to put words in my mouth. Last season I couldn't drive, coz the government has an extended learning period for anyone with asian blood. Anyways, Dave Watt used to pick me up and take me to training sessions and games. He's a top bloke, and thats all there is to it. Do you want extra cheese on that Big Mac?"

He'll likely have to deal with the same coach and attend a training camp before the WC too, so I don't see how he can be selected for the tournament considering that much.

That the coach was yet to do anything and player"s" are supposedly "driven" away is not a reflection on the abilities of the coach.

McNamara Strikes Out at Mamesh
CW Colts selector Jack McNamara today vented his frustration at Thamba Mamesh's decision to defect to CW Red, after his stellar season at the top of the order for CW Colts.

"What really riled me was that Mamesh was given more opportunity than anyone else in the side last year. Part of this was due to his performances, but we put a lot of faith in Thamba early in the year when his results weren't all that great, and yet after what we've done for him, he goes and turns his back on the people who have, if we look at this frankly, given him the leg up to national duty."

When asked if he thought it was in Mamesh's own best interests to leave, McNamara once more disagreed. "Surely Mamesh needs to thrive in a high pressure situation when he isn't playing for the CW XI - which hopefully he will do regularly from now on, because he has the talent to. And with Red being, traditionally - and probably statistically - a stronger side than the Colts, how better can Mamesh prepare himself for the rigours of Test cricket than have the pressure of being a Domestic side's best batsman?"

"I think it's just a vendetta to keep the CW Colts down the bottom. We know what sides' were against the inclusion of a whole lot of rookies, and that's what we tend to be - and we also note where our best players get poached towards."

More to come, later...
Surprised it took so long for any real backlash

They were thoughts held by Colts' management. We wanted to assess the situation and see if anything public should be stated. After discussions we thought that it would be best for the team if the other players saw that we disapointed with Mamesh's decision.

It was a good move by Mamesh, now playing alongside Tharmilan Logathanan, under the Reds banner. Lay off him, alright?

Frankly, man, rob, depends on whose side you look at it from, to see if its a good move or not. He's in Red, so im totally ok with that, maybe we can actually win a title for once, but it might be a tad unfair for the colts.
