Haha wow. Anyway, good win there guys and good to see Kyle in the squad. And Liam, just to clarify, the Test squad played a warm-up OD match?

All tours tend to start with a meaningless friendly against a meaningless side...

This is just replicating real life.

Poor decision to recall a man who only at the start of the previous season told the nation that he was retiring at it's end.

Perfect opportunity to give a younger guy a chance, rather than recalling someone who had serious thoughts of retirement on their mind less than 12 months ago.

Having said that, good luck, old man.

Fear not. You're time may still come. :p

He re-committed himself to the game and had a stellar season. No brainer, tbh.

Nice to have a second hit out to start the tour before the First Test. Good luck to Simon opening and hopefully we can show some strong form on this tour.

Cricket Web XI vs Free State
at Springbok Park

The Cricket Web XI recovered from a truly indifferent start to secure an impressive innings win over Free State on the final afternoon of their 3-day fixture. The tourists battled back from a concession of of 330-2 to limit Free State to 363 all out, largely due to the bowling of David Kennett. Kennett took 5 for 86, proving most successful, though Kyle Wright was the most consistent of the seamers.

Dean Elgar was at the centre of the scare. The 19-year-old tackled the Webhead bowlers with a fearless approach and a stunning array of strokes. He batted with captain Koortzen in a partnership of 208 for the third wicket, and both batsmen registered hundreds in the course.

Intent on repaying some of the abuse, Thamba Mamesh began the CW XI innings with an aggressive mindset. His partner Fitzsimmons perished in the first over, but Goff managed to ensure a booming start nonetheless. The two took advantage of a very ordinary bowling attack, and added 165 runs in the next 24.4 overs. A top-edged sweep shot dealt with Goff, but Mamesh continued the onslaught.

He had reached his fifty from 35 balls, and took a slower 45 balls for his hundred. He then increased the momentum further, using his feet beautifully against the spin, and rocking back with perfect balance against the seamers. At 127 balls faced, Mamesh celebrated his 150. He was out soon after to a stunning catch in the covers, but received a huge ovation, given the paltry gathering at the ground.

Chris Butler had been quietly building an impressive innings in the shadow of Mamesh, but emerged upon his dismissal and cruised to his hundred. Interestingly, he outnumbered his solitary boundary with 3 sixes in the innings. Dauth, Kearsley and Wilson made solid contributions, and at the dismisal of the Wilson, Goff called the innings to a close - 472 for 6 declared.

The decision meant that Free State would have 56 overs to negotiate and a deficit of 109 runs to erase. They failed to do either. Having reached the solid position of 51-1, Kennett set about the batting for the second time in the game. This time he bowled with more precision and far greater effect. His 5 wickets came at the price of just 12 runs, improving his match figures to a stunning 10 for 98.

Watt then rounded up the innings quickly, securing victory by an innings and 23 runs.

Free State 1st innings 363 all out
D Elgar 144, PJ Koortzen 105; DM Kennett 5-86
Cricket Web XI 1st innings 472-6 dec.
T Mamesh 177, CR Butler 107, BJ Goff 70; JMM Malao 2-88
Free State 2nd innings 86 all out
AD de Lange 23, D Elgar 19; DM Kennett 5-12, DJ Watt 3-18

Cricket Web XI won by an innings and 23 runs.
Man of the Match:
DM Kennett

Funnily enough I was actually meaning Ad's Collins. Never thought of myself for the big time.... every one here knows no one would play me internationally becauyse of my economy rate.

Everyone knows wickets are pointless in the modern game..... all about that run rate.
