Webheads Draw First Blood
1st "Test" at the Queen's Park Oval, Trinidad

Day One
Thamba Mamesh was in thoroughly convincing form, as he reached 176 not out, leading the Cricket Web 'A' team to 276/2 at stumps. He was dropped on 58 and 168, but aside from that, played superbly for the cause.

The greatness of the innings was highlighted by the grind faced by Blackman, Stedman and Fuller to score runs throughout the day, albeit on a good batting wicket. Having won the toss, Fuller wasted no time in his decision to take first strike, and the close of play scoreline vindicated the decision entirely.

Day Two
Though Tino Best's 5 wickets pulled the West Indies 'A' team back into contention quickly, the Webheads ended the day in control. After Mamesh was out without adding to his overnight score, the tourists proceeded to collapse for 382, losing their last 8 wickets for 103 runs.

West Indies 'A' reached tea with a solid reply of 21/0, but Cricket Web hit back soon after the resumption. The Blue pair of Patrick and Collins dismissed Marshall and Ganga respectively, then Bryce Cunningham had Devon Smith to sway things once more for the Webheads.

Runako Morton threatened with form, but Patrick returned to knock back his offstump with a beauty, and the hosts closed at 124/4.

Day Three
A 60-run stand between Carlton Baugh jr. and Sylvester Joseph looked good for West Indies 'A', but consistent bowling from the Cricket Web bowlers kept enough pressure on to take regular wickets and claim a first innings lead of 175. Sean Fuller took 4 quick wickets, and reduced the home side from 180/6 to 207 all out in quick time.

Already confident from his first innings venture, Thamba Mamesh had his confidence lifted further when he got a life on 9. He subsequently grew in stature, and continued to take on the West Indian bowlers, with Cricket Web already well in charge. Dropped again on 64 and 74, Mamesh was keen to take the attack especially to the spinners, who had done such a fine job of restriction in the first innings.

Tino Best was once more the main threat with the ball, and should have had Mamesh caught behind on 98, but Baugh floored another one down the legside. Alex Blackman, who had played solidly for his half-century at the other end, was made to compensate, and was caught at midon off Best to a miscued hook shot.

Stedman and Fuller returned to the pavilion in quick succession, and the innings began to take the shape of the first. By the time stumps were called, Mamesh had 131 to his name, and Cricket Web 'A' led by 396 runs, with a score of 221/3.

Day Four
The momentum stayed firmly with the tourists for the large part of the day, and Mamesh advanced seamlessly to 165, then was yorked by a slower delivery from Rampaul. His overnight partner (sounds dirty), Andrew Garven reached his milestone of a half-century, and with an unbeaten stand of 29 between Lezama and Bennett, the Webheads closed their innings at tea on 364/7.

The total meant that West Indies 'A' would have 124 overs to bat, whilst chasing an extremely improbable 540 for victory. When Patrick removed Marshall for a duck to a superb slip catch, it appeared it would be one way traffic for the tourists.

Daren Ganga was not quite as keen, however, and dug in with Devon Smith at the crease. The West Indians reached stumps at a fighting 75/1.

Day Five
Overnight rain encouraged the hopes of the West Indies 'A' team who batted valiantly into the final session, but Cricket Web 'A' attained victory by a crushing margin of 299 runs. Bryce Cunningham took on the Fuller role, and rushed the innings to a close, snaring 3 quick wickets at the end.

Daren Ganga reached a gritty half-century, and all of the middle order got starts. The Webheads kept chipping away at the wickets column, however. West Indies 'A' reached tea in the decent position of 224/6, but lasted just 6.1 overs after, as they were dismantled by Cunningham's burst.

Wow, Mamesh, two unbelievable, aggressive centuries. Was a pleasure to be at the other end for a good portion of the first innings one.

Impressive team effort as well, with all the bowlers chipping in. I think I left the declaration a bit late though... 540 runs was way more than enough and we almost ran out of time.
