Webheads Take Commanding 2-0 Lead
2nd "Test" at the Kensington Oval, Barbados
Day One
Daren Ganga won the toss and elected to bowl first at the Kensington Oval, as Cricket Web 'A' reached 258/7 at stumps, on a day of even fortunes. Alex Blackman's top order half-century was the centre-piece, after Thamba Mamesh started brilliantly before perishing to the hook stroke.
Dinu DeSilva played well for his 40, and Bryce Cunningham shone with a quick 37, but it was Sean Fuller's unbeaten 42 which really held the innings together after Blackman's demise.
Day Two
Tino Best lit up the early session of play, as the West Indies 'A' dismissed Cricket Web 'A' for 291, from their overnight 258/7. Best finished with 5 wickets, continuing his fantastic run in the series. Sean Fuller was unbeaten 55, facing 187 balls in a true captain's knock.
With the pitch still in excellent shape, the West Indies openers took guard. None of the top order looked truly settled, amidst typically overcast conditions, and Narsingh Deonarine's 62 was the only significant innings. The Cricket Web bowlers operated with discipline and heart to bowl out their hosts for just 211. Cunningham and Fuller shared 6 wickets in a good team effort.
Day Three
Having secured a first innings lead of 80 runs the previous day, the Webheads batted themselves to a healthier lead of 369 at stumps. Alex Blackman was again in good form, but it was Andrew Garven's superb attacking 74 which stole the day's play. Garven took his guard at the foot of a collapse of 2 wickets for no runs, with the score at 116/4. A failure in the first innings added to the pressure, but the veteran elected for a counterattacking style, and quickly rediscovered his form.
He was finally caught at longon off the bowling of Deonarine, but had revived the innings sufficiently to put the tourists back into the driver's seat. Cunningham and Lezama later strengthened the position further with a partnership of 42 at stumps.
Day Four
Despite interruptions from the weather and an early breakthrough for Best, Cricket Web enjoyed the best fortunes of the day, ending in firm control. After their lower order rallied to take the total to 339 all out, Cunningham and Wilson took a wicket apiece to leave West Indies 'A' at 79/2 at stumps, still needing 341 for victory.
Xavier Marshall promised runs with his 32, but was caught down the legside off a Wilson short ball. He had earlier lost partner Devon Smith to an ill-advised attempt at a cut shot. Rain and bad light combined late in the day, robbing 14 overs and forcing an early close.
Day Five
Ganga continued from his overnight 21 to post an innings top score of 62, and West Indies 'A' looked to be competing nicely in progressing through the first session with the loss of just 1 wicket. They resumed after lunch on 178/3, but lost wickets steadily in the afternoon session, before Weber ran through the tail.
Indeed, following Ganga's dismissal in the second over of the session, only Baugh impacted, scoring a spirited 53. He was last out, caught at fly slip off a Mike Wilson short ball.
