mal loye had not faced a lee or bond before either .
He had faced Shoaib Akhtar - deposited him over the midwicket boundary. Did the same to Lee a few days ago as well.

That shot is the least of his problems from what I've seen. He seems to struggle against the angle from left arm bowlers.. could possibly have similar problems if a right arm bowler went around the wicket as well.

Just to be different for NZ... open with Taylor & Fulton? Astle and Fleming at3/4? just a suggestion.

Their bowling is quite obviously good enough, with Vettori, Bond & Oram top line ODI bowlers imo, with Gillespie, Franklin & Patel as handy backups.

Did you throw anything at the TV when he went out? :p

Great series this. The good news is that we're not even half way through! Sorry, but I can't take this cyncially protracted, eight matches per side, cash cow exercise seriously. It sure blew up in Channel Nine's face tonight. What are they showing instead of the scheduled cricket? Re-runs of Different Strokes? What you talkin' 'bout Willis!

.... but our top order's lack of form is about as exposed as Jennifer Hawkins on that catwalk a couple of years back......
Well consider yourself lucky, England's is like that of a forgetful Britney Spears getting out of a limo.

Have a look at the Kiwis in the field tonight and contrast that to the other night.....
I was at the match and there were a few around me discussing that. There's a mental component to games (of course) and Australia simply daunts some players/teams. I don't think NZ will be daunted next time we meet, we'll have to earn our win.

After the shoddy bowling we witnessed last summer, our bowling has been impressive thus far. Shoddy batting has cost us two matches now I reckon.

I guess all three sides are bowling well to be fair.

England and their desire for global domination by 2011?!!

this england side would be lucky if they even manage to remain in top 5 team bracket leave alone thoughts of global domination they have 2 blokes KP and freddie and there is so much burden on them to perform that they will get drained and exhausted mentally and physically its already started taking its toll on fred, and englandr wierd selection policies are good enough to ensure that young talent will be ruined and gutted.eg:- mahmood, panesar, etc.

And yet another absolutely pathetic batting performance from England. This is getting absolutely ridiculous now, even Scotland's part-timers could bat better than our lot.

 the minute I saw you had posted in this thread I knew it'd be something like this, you've been saying it for ages now.

To be fair, you're 100% correct.

I think theres a case for ryan watson opening the batting for england in odis actually. Averages 30 in list a which aint bad compared to those in the side already and hes a seriously explosive player. When he gets a big 50/ 100 the game is yours. Certainly a better bet than strauss. ODS only mind

England's last 11 ODI innings, most recent first:

120 all out 37.5 overs
155 all out 42 overs (batting first)
206/7 49.5 overs
242/8 50 overs (first)
276/7 48.3 overs
169 all out 45 overs (first)
125 all out 37 overs (first)
155/7 31 overs
237/2 46.2 overs
271/9 50 overs (first)
166 all out 39.1 overs (first)

Only once has our batting lineup not been largely reduced to rubble (eventually).

As an aside, of slight statistical interest is:

NZ is the only game involving England in the last 12 ODIs that has not been won by the team batting second. England went through an even bigger run of that here:

But at least then we could bat and chase down targets without making really hard work of it.

What? Why is that so funny? Hes shown in the c and g games he can tear them apart. I think he deserves a go. Certainly a better bet than strauss at the top, whos done nothin in odis for ages. I assume he could play straight away what with the rules the way they are at the mo...
