As for the weather, Francis Payne posted a stat on twitter for cities with complete days washed out in tests in NZ. Wellington was second lowest with that happening at 19% of tests.

Dunedin: 14 of 18 tests, 77.8%
Napier: 6 of 10, 60%
Christchurch: 13 of 46, 28.3%
Hamilton: 5 of 25, 20%
Wellington: 12 of 63, 19%
Auckland: 8 of 50, 16%

I've been to all the internationals, all the Super Smashes and a Ford Trophy game in Wellington this season, and today and the final day of the Sri Lanka test have been the only two weather affected days.

It's nonsense imo to say cricket here is let down by the weather.

They're in the process of fixing everything there, the RA Vance stand has been revamped, I think every seat in the whole ground has been replaced, there's a new players pavilion, and the Museum Stand is currently being earthquake strengthened and upgraded with a new cricket museum as well.

Also on the agenda is floodlights and a new embankment area to the left of the Museum Stand, I believe.
That's great to hear, fantastic news.

Statistics tell your own story. If you look at the past 10 years, 6 of 14 tests have been been drawn (40%), soon to be 7 of 15 (46%). Of these, 4 of the 6 Tests were rain affected (29%), soon to be 5 of 7 tests.

Do we blame climate change?

The basin is the home of cricket here And, let's be honest, the southern hemisphere. Unlike other challenges to that title they don't pollute it with silly Australian centric sports only they care about.

Get the pitch sorted and the basin will be fine. It used to be the fairest deck in the country.

I dunno, I think I'd put the draws down to the flat as a pancake pitch. I think they could improve a lot both there and at the Stadium, where it seems to be a very variable drop-in pitch.

Sri Lanka were probably odds on to draw the last test whether the final day was washed out or not, given they'd equaled NZ's score with only three wickets down.

Totally agree with that statement. Having watched cricket around NZ, Australia and South Africa, the Basin is the best cricket watching experience I've had. Newlands in Cape Town runs it close though, and I don't rate any of the cricket stadiums in Aus.

Fair enough point and as you say, shame they can't get the drop-in pitch right.

Those Dunedin stats though.
Yeah, does anywhere else in the world match it? Places like Sri Lanka and Bangladesh they're often guilty of playing in the wrong time of year but at least there's not too much weather when they do play at the proper time of year.

Honestly, they seem to always play at the wrong time of year in Dunedin. It's been fairly glorious weather over the Xmas period the last couple of years there iirc.
It actually has statistically way less rain than most other major centers in NZ as well. Just very bad luck when it comes to cricket.

Doesn’t help that the outfield has 0 drainage. A light shower is enough to ruin half a day’s play. I still remember the spectacle of the groundstaff spreading kitty litter over a damp patch of the outfield in a feeble attempt to soak it up.

Pissing down overnight in Welly, probably won’t get much play today.

It’s stopped pouring in Wellington, but the drizzle seems well set in and the ground is ridiculously soggy. I can’t see any play today if the forecast of continuing showers is accurate. And I see the forecast for Sunday is now for more of the same.

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
also tbf to Wellington, if this test was held in Auckland there'd be less likely chance of a result. Been absolutely bucketing it down for 2 days now.

CDG to be MOTM if and when they play. Will nab a cheap bag of wickets after Boult and Southee waste new ball and/or slog a 70 after the top order gets decimated

Lots of people seem to be assuming NZ will win the toss and bowl. Weird. Anyway. If that doesn’t happen, I wonder if they would be tempted to declare without facing a ball? Make sure they get the bowl first advantage and bet on the pitch being a typical Basin wicket that will ease up after the first couple of sessions.
