The sound of Hodge's bat is just such a joyful noise.

Absolutely creamed a couple of shots today. Really hope Ponting was noting just what the masterful man is capable of!!

Gilly goes for yet another dismal score, caught behind off Johnson for just 8 :(

EDIT: Watson has just picked up his first wicket of the match. Really can't understand the make-up of the Queensland side. Why are we playing Doran when he has bowled a total of 7 overs for 39 runs in the match.

For that matter as well, why has Symonds, bowled 27 overs, compared to just 12 from watson, 18 for Johnson, & only 6 for Bichel in the second innings.

Good game for Johnson with the ball, with 7 wickets. Watson seems to have done okay as well, kept it tight in the first innings and grabbed a couple of wickets in the second. Unfortunate about the duck, though. Langer had some good time in the middle too.

How come Symonds bowled 30 overs and Doran bowled 3? Assuming that the pitch was turning, surely Doran would have been a good option? Either way, comfortable win for Queensland, and WA are in dire straights now if they can't find a bowler. Bottom of the table season for them, you'd imagine.

The selection call for the 4th bowler will be a tough one with Johnson and Clark and Bracken all in pretty good form.

I not 100% sure, but i think Symonds was bowling seamers, i remember someone posting about it earlier. Really should have played Simpson or a Batsmen, regardless though. Looking at th WA bowling attack, they probably should have played Marsh and Voges as specialist bowlers, i doubt they would have done a worse job.

Just realised I repeated most of your post, but I'd say Symonds bowled a lot because it was turning. Not sure why Doran didn't bowl, but Symonds was bowling his offies.

I just talked to someone who was at the game for the final session and they said he was bowling off-spinners. He may have been bowling seamers earlier in the day, though.

Even if he was bowling Seamers, would've thought that Bichel/Watson sould get the job ahead of him. Especially seeing as Bichel is a specialist, and Watto is gunning for a Test Allrounders birth.

Agreed that Doran should've bowled more if it was turning though. He's not going to get better when he's bowling only 10/15 overs a match.

QLD won by an innings and 16 runs, and bowled W.A. out for under 300 in both innings (1st innings was barely 200). You really can't fault Maher's bowling choices. He's always favoured the quicker men. I was following the scorecard a bit at work (don't tell anyone  ) and Doran was brought on right before the first wicket fell, from then the collapse started and the quicker men were doing the job. He wasn't needed and Symonds did take 2 very important wickets of a well and truely set Rogers and another set batsman in North. Good win for QLD. :D

Symonds still sees himself as very much in the mix for the allrounders spot, at least publically. He was interviewed about how its kinda odd for him and Watson to play together for Qld and in ODIs for Australia but to be competing for a test spot.

If the selectors are still set on an allrounder at 6, I wouldn't be surprised to see Symonds get up ahead of Clarke if Watson was injured.

Great to see Hodge getting some runs - perhaps he might get another go at the highest level.

Interesting game this, don't think one can read too much into the form of the players here, but its does make the Watson/Clark, Johnson/Clark/Bracken battle a bit hot now. For me hopefully come the 16th the selectors go Watto & Johnson.

Nice to see Hodge in the runs, especially with Ponting right. He definately has a future in the national side.

About the only positive about Symonds being selected to play in the ashes would be seeing Shortpitched (or was it someone else?) eat the keyboard.

BARNES OUT
I'm almost 100% sure of this side being picked, even though it goes against everything I stand for:

Hayden
Langer
Ponting
Martyn
Hussey
Clarke
Gilchrist
Warne
Lee
Clark
McGrath

For the love of God I hate Michael Clarke, please pick Watson.

WA will be looking for 3 new bowlers for their next game.
Bedmonsen averaged over 60,macgoffin 90 and dorey a 100.
3 games is enough too determine that your bowlers are ****.
For me macdonald, innes and andrew james for the next game.

Great to see Mitchell Johnson picking up 3 wickets, were Watson's two wickets enough to pick him for Brisbane? He was pretty economical in both innings but not very penetrative. Great batting from Love, Rogers and Hopes.

Hodge and White scoring good centuries against Tasmania, with Griffith and Hilfenhaus both picking up two wickets.

You could be more wrong, but you'd really have to try.
