Hmm with Kjeza coming through, plus the other spin bowling all rounders in O'Brien, Burke, Bright and one other guys who name i can't remember (he made the Australia U19 tour last year) also around the scene it wouldn't be a great move. If a spinner was going to move states it would be to Queensland or Victoria if White gets a long run in the ODI side.
Steve O'Keefe? Or Wallace?

Lachlan Stevens is a left arm orthodox spinner (but an all-rounder, really), which does give them three (if Symonds bowls pace, then only two) spinners. Made a big hundred in a 4th innings chase for QLD 2nd XI vs Victoria, when they chased down 440 to win (although Vic had two bowlers injured, but still an awesome effort). Philipson got a double ton in that game.

Since when was two spinners spin heavy??

Lachlan Stevens is generally a opening batsmen that bowls medium pace. It looks like his in the squad as Shane Watson replacement, effectively. Also just cus Johnson has a 12 next to his name doesn't mean his 12th man. Probably either Simpson or Stevens will be given the drinks duty.

EDIT: Just read futher on, they will use super subs, so one of those two are likely to be super. It should be intereesting to see who NSW play as the super sub, my guess would be Aaron O'Brien. Gives as backup with that bat and bowl, so he will still be effective if we win the toss or loss it and bat first.
I don't know what you consider medium pace, but Stevens isn't one.

Also can anyone tell me about Lachlan Stevens, he has been selected at 8 in the QLD pura cup squad ahead of Johnson which is surprising. From memory Stevens is a batsman/batting all-rounder, his bowling must of really improved if he is getting selected above Johnson as i cant imagine the QLD selectors would pick a batsman at 8.

Qld are running with a pretty bizarre bowling line up. Symonds, Hopes, Simpson, Stevens??, Bichel and Kaspa. Pretty spin heavy IMO.

Anyway interested to see what people think of Stevens as i know very little about him.

I just looked at the article which I assume you have got the idea that Stevens will be batting at 8. I will be very surprised come Monday if Stevens plays as a bowler ahead of Johnson. It will be between Stevens and Simpson as to who is 12th man in that game.

Whoops i thought he was a medo

Regardless they still have 4 seamers plus Symonds, so its more pace dominant then spin.

But in saying that MacGill made it past Greg Mattews, Gavin Robinson and John Davison, who were all rated as high, if not higher, so if he is good enough to back himself then it could be a good move.
True. That was just from talking to his brother a while ago in Shanghai so the situation could have changed. I just know he wasn't getting many games, being at the WACA and everything, and the SCG would offer him many more chances to play.

Super Subs and power plays will be used in the ING Cup.
Does that make it the first domestic competition to do so?
I guess they're here to stay then

They are being used in the Challenger Series in India, i guess they were first, but that isn't the major domestic comp. I think South Africa are also using them and i think they start their season before Australia.

SpeedBlitz Blues Win Opening ING Cup match
Friday, October 14, 2005

The SpeedBlitz Blues have won the opening ING Cup match of the season against Queensland at the Gabba by 144 runs.

The visitors set Queensland 244 to win the match after being sent in to bat.

Dominic Thornely top-scored with 51 and all-rounder Aaron O'Brien made an unbeaten 50.

The SpeedBlitz Blues were 5 for 148 in the 34th over before Thornely and O'Brien added 85 for the sixth wicket in 14 overs.

Thornely's 51 came from 60 balls with three fours and two sixes while O'Brien's 50 not out came from 56 balls with four fours.

The defending Pura Cup champions finished at 7 for 243 on a pitch offering assistance to the bowlers.

Phil Jaques made 29, Ed Cowan 24, Corey Richards 22, Brad Haddin 27 and Matthew Phelps 16.

Two early wickets to Nathan Bracken put the side in the box seat.

Bracken bowled Australian one-day team-mate James Hopes for seven and had Andrew Symonds caught behind for one.

With the score at two for 50, Queensland then lost two for none, with Doug Bollinger removing captain Jimmy Maher for 34 and Dominic Thornely dismissing Clinton Perren for eight.

Bollinger then went on a rampage, dismissing Andy Bichel, Brendan Nash, and debutant Nathan Reardon.

Bollinger finished with 4 for 31 from ten overs.

SpeedBlitz Blues debutant Aaron Bird claimed his first wicket, dismissing Craig Philipson to leave Queensland at 8 for 80.

Bracken came back to grab the last two wickets in two balls, to give him 4 for 15 from 6.2 overs and Queensland was all out for 99.

Brad Haddin took five catches.

The size of the win gave the SpeedBlitz Blues two bonus points, getting the side off to a perfect start in the ING Cup.

Qld were pathetic last night. After having NSW 5/150 or something they let them get away. Then the batting was terrible with only Maher providing any resistance. Bracken and Bollinger bowled well, but not well enough to bowl Qld out for 99. Clark was useless though so at least one good thing came out of the match.

just two questions for anyone who watched the ING cup game:

1. How fast was Johnson clocked

2. How did Bird look

You dont get clocked at domestic games (unless this has changed?!). Thats why no one ever knew how fast Tait was.
