I havent really heard much from South Australia or NSW. Does anyone really think that Manou or Daniel Smith will play for Australia?
There is a bloke called "Brad Haddin" who every NSW person thinks has earned the right to inherit the throne.

As far as I can see, it looks as though Chris Hartley will have to sleep with a selectors' wife not to get a look in ahead of the other younger blokes (Crosthwaite, Ronchi, et al).

Haddin might get a year or two,but they'll be keen to get Hartley in there sooner rather than later.

I wouldnt really put Haddin in the "young keepers" section though. He will probably take over from Gilchrist, but he'll only play a few years after that before retiring. Hartley, Dawson, Crosthwaite and Ronchi are the ones being tossed around as the next permanent keeper.

that time of year again....

i obviously believe that queensland will once again be very strong and it's our turn this year to actually win both.

i personally think that tasmania and victoria will be the bottom two for both comps, queensland in the top 2 for both with SA making a big improvement on last year and making one of the finals with nsw the other.

possible qld sides:
1st half of season:
Maher (c)
Hopes
Love
Symonds
Perren
Philipson
Hartley (wk)
Bichel
Stevens/Hauritz
Kasper
Johnson (Dawes for pura cup)

2nd half of season:
Maher (c)
Hayden
Love
Philipson
Perren
Reardon
Hartley
Bichel
Stevens/Hauritz
Kasper
Johnson (Dawes for pura cup)

other players: Batsmen: Kruger, Nye, Nash, Reardon Bowlers: Hauritz, Noffke, Jurgensen, Le Loux keeper: Wallis

Players who i'll be monitoring the most this season:

Gillespie - this is the most important season of his career if he does poorly he wont play for Australia again which i for australia's sake would be a travesty to loose such a good bowler. Hopefully he gets some form n is back in the test side at least by the end of the season.

Johnson - well i dont want to think down this road but i have to.... lets say Dizzy doesn't bounce back this man's rise could find himself into the test side, so his performances for the bulls will keenly monitored.

Cullen - i'm sure most aussie fans just want to see him improve on his 1st season perfomaces

Ronchi/Croshthwaite/Hartley - The battle of these 3 talented young keepers will be interesting, Ronchi may lose it this season because he wont start in front of Campbell but if he does get a chance to play a full season like the other 2, their performances will be keenly monitored

Jaques - just keep getting runs

White - just improve on his bowling in the 4-day game, but if he gets into the ODI sqaud that could be hindered or it could be improved by the fact that he would be bowling to international standard players....

Looks like a good match this weekend between Adelaide and West Torrens at Henley Oval.

Elliot will be making his debut for West Torrens and defectors Jack Smith and Simon Marshall playing against their old club. Dan Cullen and Jason Gillespie will be playing for the Buffaloes.

Lets hope the Eagles dominate.

The word around is that Ronchi will start infront of Campbell this season. Also keep a eye for David Dawson, the best batsmen out of all the Australian keepers, bar Haddin and off course Gilly. If he can reach his batting potential this season and improve his keeping, he will be pushing those three as the next incumbent keeper.

Im not sure about Dawson. He debuted with 120 odd but has done very little since, now averaging in the high 20's and from what ive seen has shown nothing that would suggest he is a better batsman than Hartley or Ronchi. I havent seen much of Crosthwaite so cant comment but ive heard he was handy with the bat at junior level.

For me Dawson is a little way behind the three young hyped keepers, Hartley, Ronchi and Crosthwaite at the moment.

That's pretty much covered it. However, another bloke whose fortunes I will be following is Shaun Marsh. I've always had high hopes for this lad. Although he hasn't kicked on since that innings in Newcastle two years ago which Steve Waugh described as 'the best innings I've ever seen from a youngster', he's still only 22. I reckon anyone who has scored a few FC hundreds by that age, has something about them. Same with Callum Ferguson from SA.

Ronchi will almost definently start ahead of Campbell in ING, but I wouldn't be suprised to see them stick with the old stager for Pura Cup. He did have a pretty good season last year, and I think - not entirely sure - they rate Campbell's glovework higher.

oh yes Marsh arguably the most talented young batsman around, yea i'll be monitoring his movements at the WACA for sure.

Haddin suggested ever so subtley that the selectors should consider him for the ODI teama s a specialist batsman this summer, might not be such a bad idea if someone loses form (poor old Marto will be under the pump all summer) or gets injured - Jaques would be up there too.

I couldnt see them doing that, seems like a bit of a waste. But then again, I cant pick what they're gunna do these days.... :dontgetit

Marsh is certainly a mover, hes chocka block full of natural talent, and has a really nice, quiet temperament.

Looking forward to this race for the young keeper of the year. May the best man (read: state :sly:) win.

i dunno what hes like fielding elsewhere, if hes not to bad and the selectors know that than he might be in with a shot.
