Sad..indeed. With all my fuming optimism, even i didn't see this coming. An innings and 198 runs hardly reflects the actual torment of any Pakistan fan. Or for that matter, any cricket fan.
Only three other teams have recorded a lower match tally than the 112 Pakistan put together and it's the lowest match aggregate in 56 years.
It's also only the second time in 50 years a Test match has finished inside two days, with England's win over the West Indies at Headlingley two years ago the other.
It really does hit hard 59/10 53/9 almost sounds like a voodo curse. All the talk about inconsistencies seems dull when put in contrast to this performance.
An obvious reason for the performance is that the team is not playing like one. Its not strength from strength rather every man for himself. Waqar has me dissapointed, I expected better grip and vigilence from him. Such a young team is bound to be incohesive, thats where the captain comes in, I just did not see Waqar anywhere.
No team in the world places a series in the platter and offers it to the opposition like this. With Inzimam and Youhanna out with injuries, I can only guess the wisdom behind the decision to field such an inexperienced team. They were always in for a thrashing, but this goes far beyond that. Fundamental questions will now arise, for Pakistans sake, I hope these questions find answers otherwise its trouble, lots of it.
This loss leaves a disoriented Pakistan behind, with an undeniable apprehension that something is terribly wrong with the national team. All Waqar can hope to do now is to salvage some form of respect in the series, that done or not, go back to the drawing board and do some major rethinking. Rethinking not on strategy, but far more ground problems. Strategy is a far cry yet !
Else, the hits will just keep on coming.
