plus Warne had more say in the match results. He took top order wickets in the second innings. Considering Pak's lower order, his performance was crucial to Australia getting home.

From the little I have seen of Williams, he looks sharp.

I doubt very much whether he will play in the second test (it's far more likely that Australia will prefer Andy Bichel) but if that game goes Australia's way too, then we just might see him making his debut in game 3.

Hell yes. Plus he has the real demon in him when he gets his back up. I should know; I still have the slight depression on the side of the head from when I faced him - and he was even quicker then.

Just watch out for a new left-arm quickie on the horizon, guys. His name is Mitchell Johnston and plays in Queensland. He's 20 I think and with 5 stress fractures in his back and coming off a four pace run-up, he got clocked at 138km/h. a couple of years ago...........he's SERIOUSLY quick and bowls a hooping in-swinger.

I never said he was talented; just REALLY QUICK.

In the past yes but he's a much better bowler these days after having his career interrupted by injuries. Plus he's a fearsome hitter of the ball, as is Mitchell Johnston.

Oh if only Harmison could learn to slog a bit! I mean most fast bowlers either get a few runs slogging or none...Harmison bats slowly and blocks a lot...and still gets few runs...I reccon he could score quite a few runs if he just hit at the ball!

Ok of course Im not counting Hoggard as an attacking batsman...hes just about one of the most boring to watch!

Do the wickets in Sharjah assist pace or are they underprepared, break up and assist spin? For instance, what happened in the series between Pak and the Windies? I know Pak won easily, but were the pitches clearly suited to either pace or spin or were they sporting ones?

I saw the first test at Sharjah which Pak won after some inspired bowling from Shoaib Akhtar but it didn't look like there was any juice in that wicket as such....neither any significant assistance to the spinners and both the teams looked quite comfortable while batting till a late burst from Akhtar finished it in WI second innings.

It was a good batting wicket and held up for the full five days.

Is there anything wrong in numbers 10 and 11 batting for half an hour or so and allowing the bloke at the other end to score a few runs?

I don't think so - Hoggard's batting this summer was immense.

The wkt will most probably assist the spinners rather than the pacers, as such Huritz will be preferred over a new pacer.

No, no problem with them hanging around for an hour or so but Harmison doesn't even get the runs but with a bit of coaching he could score some, and Hoggard's batting was superb this season...just a trifle dull though

I wonder how they would have gone had Dizzy broken down earlier in the innings or match?????? Me thinks the result would have been different - don't know that Pakistan would have won, but I don't think Australia would have bowled them out int the 2nd innings.....

I still maintain that the Australian team is 1 all rounder / part timer short at Test level - I do not count M Waugh, Ponting etc as back ups as they do not bowl often enough...abd they all tend to bowl gentle off spin - too much sameness!!!!

I believe every team should have an accurate medium pacer capable of holding up one end and taking the pace off the ball - from memory S Waugh did this in his early career as did Blewett, and as Astle does for NZ now.

I think their pace bowlers do not offer enough variety in attack when the pitch is flat and the batsmen are dug in - if there is little turn on a dead track then they hit a wall...

thankfully for Australia this does not occur too often - but I do think it is a flaw in their attack which the Indians were able to exploit in their wonderful home series victory......

Why doesn't Waugh bowl anymore? He's only 11 wickets off 100 test wickets and time is rapidly running out for him to reach that! Actually...I've never seen him bowl...

Australia is thinking of fielding five specialist bowlers for the second test due to the prospect of heat exhaustion affecting the bowlers.

Mark Waugh is likely to be dropped if that happens.

I must say I can't see that happening - Gilly pushed up to 6 weakens the batting a fair bit, and they're one up in the series.

I reckon it'll be the same team with Bichel for Gillespie.
