***Official*** Australia in the West Indies 2012

Contra

Cricketer Of The Year
pretty simple

oz will beat eng, sa and india all day, every day anywhere

unfortunately for us australian supporters, they do not have the quality/focus/etc to do the same to other teams hence it's a toss up
lol

When Pollard gets going he's a force to be reckoned with but dropped catches didn't help us. Once they slowed down after the Barath onslaught it looked like their total would be modest but Pollard simply went ballistic.

Very disappointed at the results but can't say I'm too surprised, when you start running an international side like a club team then this is what happens and if the team leadership doesn't take out it's head out of the sand soon enough then this slide would continue.

Anyways hoping a guy like Lee isn't turned into the scapegoat in case we lose this series, he's the one of the most fiercest competitors Australia has ever produced and if we drop him just to divert attention from the real issues then it would be a real shame.

You mean aside from the real issue that he's been very much a sub-par performer for us this summer.

but he is teh chapmions, so he gets a blank cheque.

and obviously none of his bad performances are his fault.

The thing to first take into consideration is that Lee has been playing on with a fractured toe since the last month or so and why he's being allowed to play on with it is baffling, obviously he would have passed some fitness tests before being cleared to play but running in game after game to bowl fast with a broken toe can't be the most awesome feeling in the world.

The other thing is that Lee just isn't a death bowler, even at his peak he was poor at the death and its no different now either and that's where the think tank needs to do some work and chalk out roles for everyone.

Limited overs cricket is all about having a settled combination where every player knows their role and what exactly is expected of them, for us over the course of the last 15 ODI's its been a bit of free-for-all where pretty much anyone bats anywhere in the batting order, its the same with bowling unit where the opening bowling pair has kept changing after every few games and at the death too pretty much everyone has rolled their arm over, so the only surprising thing is that we have actually won some games despite playing like this.

I'm comfortable keeping Lee around. When MJ returns it gets iffy but right now, who are you gonna drop for him right now, Hilf? ha

My point was if we lose this series than its pretty much possible that Inverarity and co. might again think that its time to move on and this time Lee could be turned into the scapegoat and a perception would be created that the bowling side of things would improve in his absence.

The thing we need to understand is that quality bowlers/players just don't sprout out from thin air, one has to bite the bullet at some point and back your players through tough times.

A bloke like Hilf or Patto have got all the necessary variations up their sleeves but none of that potential is going to materialise into performance if they aren't going to get a longer rope.

The biggest problem with Australian cricket is that we have been for a while backing mediocre players like Johnson, White, Marsh, Haddin just because they could produce a match winning performance every once in a while, on the flip-side we have hardly shown any patience with our young talented players, they have got very few chances and that too with a sword always hanging over their heads, the fact of the matter is that our performances on the field aren't going to improve until we improve our off the field planning.

The bowling wasn't the issue in this match the batting was.

It was pitiful. The ground isn't that big and when your Pollard's size your going to clear the ropes more often than not.

Lee IMO shouldn't play in the next IPL if his foot isn't 100% he should rest up for a while to get that sorted. Doubt the selectors will drop him because his batting is a good deal more solid than any of the other bowlers.

Well we allowed them to score close to 130 runs in the last 12-13 overs and even in the 3rd ODI despite having them 6 down close to 100 odd runs we allowed them to comeback into the contest and tie the game, not really sure how the batting is to be blamed for that.

Fielding didn't help for a start.

The ground is small if you get under the ball and have a fair bit of strength its gonna sail.

If the WI can do it with only 1 batsman and a pair of slogging bowlers the Aussies should be able to do something similar. The fact that Lee was able to just clobber about 50 runs in 24 or so balls says enough.
