Yeah...just looking at the Laws of Cricket, there isn't a provision for extending play at the end of the day so it must be entirely at the umpires discretion. The rule is in place for the extra half hour at tea if the team is 9 wickets down, so mayb the umpires go off that?marc71178 said:I don't think there's any hard and fast rule - I think the umpires have to agree that there is a reasonable chance of a result, taking everything into consideration.
Hopefully he gets nowhere near teh longer form.marc71178 said:Only Mick Lewis can do that...
It's Test cricket._Ed_ said:"We've got a Test match to win ... so if that means bowling short balls at him, so be it."
Mark Boucher asked about what would happen if Justin Langer, suffering from bad concussion after being struck on the head by Makhaya Ntini, came out to bat at Johannesburg.
I thought that was a bit cruel...but I guess it's fair enough.
They were just showing the highlights of yesterdays play - showed Ponting going up and saying something that didn't look too pleasant to Ntini after he'd been dismissed (because it was change of innings, both teams were walking to the dressing rooms).Jono said:Lol fair enough. Ntini walked back to his mark like he usually does (after catching the ball that bounced off Langer's helmet... sickening how far it travelled) but after Langer was being helped by the medical staff and what not, and was being taken back to the pavillion Ntini ran all the way from his mark up to him and sort of tapped him and apologised, or whatever you want to call it.
Ntini seems too nice a guy to not do that IMO.
