Told you marto would come good, he really turned it around 2 innings ago. Graet to see him get the runs when his team and country needed him most.

I always thought the rule was the bowling team can ask/get extra half hour as long as they feel they have a fiar chance of closing it out on the same day regardless of te wickets in hand.

Some one clarify the real rule please.

Nice fightback from South Africa. You've got to give credit to Kallis - he's bowled really well all series, going back to the first test where he got some excellent reverse swing and topped the bowling figures in the first innings. He's really shouldered the burden here with Nel injured and bowled wonderfully. Dismissing Symonds was the wicket that turned the match I thought, it looked like a comfortable chase until then.

If Langer is fit to bat tomorrow you'd have to back Australia, with only 44 to get. If they were to dismiss Martyn early though it could make a huge difference, especially if Langer can't bat. Should be a very interesting finish.

The rule is optional, and is based on the number of wickets remaining. It is either 2 or 3, but it's a hard and fast rule, you can't get the half hour with 5 down just because you think you might win.

Anyway, it wasn't an issue here, because South Africa were never going to get the overs in or reach the close of play time. It was always about the light.

Average over 100 in both forms? I can see it
ha, nah i was reckoning he may have a sensational time with the ball in the next year like after 10 test he may have 50 wickets or something. But has James90 said he may just be a steady enough performer to stay in the team

i don't need to, obviously when he makes one that affects Australia i'm going to get annoyed thats normal.
Which completely contradicts what you've only just said and confirms what I said about it only being because 1 decision went against Australia...

I think they'd have to be 8 wickets down to be able to claim the extra half hour.
I don't think there's any hard and fast rule - I think the umpires have to agree that there is a reasonable chance of a result, taking everything into consideration.

Either side can ask for it, if they have a realistic chance of winning with a further 8 overs play.

No, James90 has never been a steady enough performer to stay in the team.

Anyone else think that he won't get his batting average back above 50 again before retirement?
I do not think he will but he does have Bangladesh next week.

Well he's not got too long left, so I can't see him getting anywhere near really (I know I'm going to regret saying this).

Hard to say. His form in ODI cricket suggests he's not totally past it, so I'd say he could. He does seem to have a real problem with the ball moving away from him when a bowler comes around the wicket though, at least recently.

I might have enough stuff here for the Greigy to last the rest of the year:laugh:

While we are at it I think the Aussies will win this Test Match from here:ph34r:
