so what does every1 think of the series overall? i think we had 1 great match(the last one), one exceptionally poor one (nagpur), one potential classic (the second test) and one where australia outplayed india totally but not in the horribly insulting way they did in nagpur...
nah totally disagree. the last test can't really be described as great. maybe as close but it was'nt great. Nagpur wasn't poor australia just whooped ****. The first test Austrlia seriously outplayed India though just as much as Nagpur

The next test series between the two will be highly anticipated though due o that last result

Marc, Kumble took 5 wickets in Australia's first innings. What are you on about?
He also leaked 90 from 19 overs...

From what I hear about Hauritz, he could easily have had 5 as well.

oh get over it, id take this pitch over some of the pitches that have been prepared in australia of late.
and no i dont think it was an excelllent pitch either, but i certainly dont mind the odd occasion when the batsmen are tested and the bowlers have the advantage.
Agreed, but it shouldn't happen every test match, but once in a while is not going to affect the state of world wide cricket.

I think India need to take stock of what they did with the batting in the 3rd innings. Laxman must bat at three, he likes the new ball, it would be so much easier for them if he opened the batting, but he has publicly said he doesn't like it, but it is better for the team if he bats at 3.

Its good to see that Shipperd could see how well both were bowling in the nets all the way from Melbourne.

If I'm not wrong last season finished in March. The stats may have been used to select the players to tour, but obviously the selectors decreed that Hauritz was bowling better at the time.

If you go on stats alone, Michael Clarke should have never been picked.

The poor pitch made for a thrilling match, as long as all pitches aren't like that i'm not complaining.

I must say it's good to see you all take the defeat with such good grace (!)

I also note that not one of you complained about the pitch before the 4th innings - wonder why that might be?

doesn't mean that it wasn't rubbish....

when asked about it in an interview Jason Gillespie replied something like this "Im not allowed to comment on the pitch mate, but a mate of mine said it was an absolute shocker"

even Rahul Dravid has pretty much said the pitch was awful.

you know its bad when the 2 best batting sides in the world cant get much past 200...

Congratulations to India on a much needed win to lift the Team morale !!

While the pitch has been blamed, one must not forget that its just one of the many uncertainties of cricket . (along with injuries, umpires as had been suggested in the past !)

On the positives, the emergence of Hauritz can only mean well for the future of Australian cricket. ( as a quality spinner who can complement Warne [if required] and being young he is a definite investment for the future of Australian cricket.)

For India, Murali Karthik has justified the selectors by competing on equal footing with the top 2 Indian spinners.

To me the mystery of this Test, seems to be the lack of selection by Australia of Cameron White over one of the seamers (despite their having judged the pitch over several days prior to the Test, and Lehman having been sent home, and Katich not being bowled much as a spinner )!!

Unless of course they didn't read the pitch correctly !!

The even bigger mystery seems to be, the figures of Clarke ( a guy who has in 53 first class matches taken 13 wickets at 40.23 and only one 5 wickets in his first class career so far !!) 6.2 overs 6 wickets for 9 runs !!

Puzzling when Katich who has a 5 wicket haul in Test cricket, and 73 wickets in his first class career was not even give a bowl in a pitch that turned from Day 1 !! ( I bet Clarke's sponsors are very very happy :D )

also reading that Hauritz will get dropped and never picked again after being totally outclassed by Clarke with the ball... deservingly for mine, with batsmen who can boal a little spin Warne should be the only spinner picked uin the test side, with him out 4 quicks should play with Clarke, katich and lehman filling in a few overs.

5 wickets at an average of 20 is a pretty good effort in your debut test. Of course the papers saying that he will never get picked again will be the NSW ones who will now push for their offie Justin Krezja.

cricinfo also saying that hes nowhere near test class yet. being outshone that much by a part timer does say alot.

He is nowhere near test class yet and considering how he bowls in domestic cricket, I think he bowled exceptionly well. He has looked to improve over the offseason and his bowling action is a lot better and looks to have more variation. There is noway he should have been playing in that test, but the selectors made the choice of not taking MacGill, so they had to take the gamble on Hauritz or White, and looking at the way White is bowling today I can see why they chose Hauritz. If he can work on his game I think he will play for Australia again, although I doubt he will ever get picked as a solo spinner, rather as a support spinner. IMO the jury is still out.

Indeed.

It's a bit sad really. With the exception of a pitch which will only produce a draw, the Indians have the right to produce whatever kind of pitch they want. If the pitch favours the bowlers then the Australian bowlers have to take advantage of it and the Australian batsmen have to bat well on it. On day two they did that and on day three they didn't, it's as simple as that. There is no more unfair advantage in that than an Australian pitch that is fast and bouncy.

I don't think Hauritz did that badly. It must be remembered that he was bowling against India, regardless of the pitch, and they play spinners very well and are always looking to score off them. Warne picked up 14 wickets at 30 in this series, and he bowled very well for most of it. Hauritz getting 5 at 20 including Tendulkar and Laxman and getting smacked around a bit is not a particularly shocking effort.

Also, actually watching the test, he bowled better than I have ever seen him bowl in domestic cricket. He did get a lot of assistance from the pitch, but it takes skill and intelligence to take advantage of that assistance, especially when you are completely new to the conditions like Hauritz is.

Well, as always with Australia vs India, something special or unreal happens and this series (despite being a let down based on competitiveness) delivered in this regard anyways.

Totally agree with these thoughts.

Brilliant match, good to see ball ruling over bat for once... I see Ponting is having a bit of a whinge about the pitch, calling for an enquiry and such... Very interesting...

On the pitch
Disappointing. It's fair to say that the wicket was nowhere near even being close to Test-match standard: that's pretty obvious given what we've seen over the last two days. 40 wickets falling in just over two days of a Test is pretty much unheard of. It's disappointing that the series has ended this way. It's been such a fantastic series, from the first ball bowled till the start of this match.

two bad things happened for australia the pitch was not that good and ponting choose to play in this match 8-) 8-)

It's not interesting at all. I would expect it the pitch was awfull and deserves to be whinged at.
