**Official** Australia in India Thread

Some people are being unfair in their triumphalism over those complaining about the pitch. There were those of us who said it was substandard well before Australia collapsed to lose. Peter Roebuck made his comments after the Aussies took a lead on the first innings. For me, Clarke's 6 for 9 rang huge alarm bells. I pride myself on trying to be as fair as possible in my evaluation of the game, and after India's last tour in Australia, often argued that India were clearly the dominant team of the series (and probably deserved to win it).

I don't think that arguing that this pitch was inferior is sour grapes - it's a fact that both sides conceded. The later it got, the worse it got. I'm all for pitches that give more assistance to the bowlers than many of the bat-friendly tracks we've seen over the last few years. I also have nothing against spin-friendly tracks that Australia's folded on in the past - they're as good for the game as fast, bouncy tracks are. This pitch to me, was outside reasonable parameters, in my honest opinion.

Congrats to India though - Laxman and Tendulkar did fabulously in attacking Hauritz so effectively in the middle of the last day, and it's there that I believe the game was won.

Did ANYONE hear Ponting whine when Hayden broke Lara's record against Zimbabwe. Did he say, that Zimbabwe does not deserve to be playing Tests ? Did he say that the pitch was a featherbed ?

Answer: NO ! Ponting has no class and he is showing it with his unsporting, whining reaction to a loss. He should just say India batted and bolwed better, fielded worse but still won. Come On Ricky - show some Class. Or are you like Marc1178 ?

Do you have a leg to stand on in this regard? You've consistently whined and complained all throughout this thread. Have some dignity, man.

Dignity ! Believe me I am learning all about that from you guys and the GREAT RICKY PONTING ! By the way look at the earlier post regarding the article that Peter Roebuck wrote after Michael Clarke's spell. No mention of pitch, no whining or complaining just HOW GREAT CLARKE IS.....he wrote sheer poetry.

Dignity. You should speak. Hypocirsy, i smor like it. Come on - wake up and admit that NONE OF YOu expected India to beat Australia. believe me if there was no rain in Chennai it would be 2-2.

You guys can dish it out but can't take it - not with any dignity, anyway. Ponting should be pulled up by CA for being such a moronic loser. Imgaine if Ganguly had said that in a role reversal.....!!

I'm close to giving up on you (because you're probably a troll), but surely you can see how hypocritical it is to harp on about whining Australians when you've spent the entirety of this series up to this point doing exactly that.

As to not expecting India to beat Australia, I considered India favorites going into the series. I thought that India were a 60/40 chance to win Chennai, and still do and have no trouble admitting that they were unlucky that it rained (even though the Aussies did still have some chance of winning that game, and it was far from the certainty you proclaim it to be).

As far as shankar's reproduction of Roebuck's article today, you clearly didn't read it - throughout he consistently mentions the pitch and the way it made a part-time arm-roller look like a spinning master. To be honest, I wasn't sure what point shankar was making. I think that Roebuck enjoys Clarke's attitude (he may even enjoy him in the biblical sense :)), but none of that negates the evaluation of the pitch he made earlier when Australia were well on top in the match.

He has more class than you will ever have..

He was answering a question directed at him on both occasions and gave his honest opinion on both occasions... Now the Lara one was a bit iffy to wether he was right or wrong but on this occasion while whinging it may have been if he came out and publicly said souch things of his own accord. But on this occasion he was simpily replying to a question and what he said is correct.

it seems like you have a real unfounded dislike for Ponting.

Australia deserved to win this series plain and simple. There is no room for IF's and BUT's. Thats all crap. Live in the 'here and now' people.

doesn't mean that it wasn't rubbish....
Oh, well that justifies the whining then (!)

Not one of those comments congratulated the Indians - instead they looked for scapegoats.

Here's one for you - maybe the Australian batsmen with their inflated averages aren't used to challenging conditions and when they came upon such conditions, only one of them (Martyn) was able to cope?

cricinfo also saying that hes nowhere near test class yet. being outshone that much by a part timer does say alot.
Yes, it says that Clarke came on after the 2 big wickets had fallen, and for the most bowled to people who a) hadn't got in on this pitch, and b) don't have the ability of eg SRT.

with him out 4 quicks should play with Clarke, katich and lehman filling in a few overs.
And you think that would've worked in this Test? 8-)

It does kind of ignore the chances missed off Hauritz, or that he was bowling when 2 players were applying their technique to show that scoring runs on this pitch wasn't impossible.

But then again, I've just checked on Cricinfo, and I see which state Hauritz hails from...

Brilliant match, good to see ball ruling over bat for once... I see Ponting is having a bit of a whinge about the pitch, calling for an enquiry and such... Very interesting...
Where's that picture of the sour grapes again? ;)

It's not interesting at all. I would expect it the pitch was awfull and deserves to be whinged at.
Would he have made the same demands if Australia had won the match?

But I dont see what your point is.. why would we complain about the pitch when we are well ahead in the match ?
And therein lies exactly why I said you're acting like a sore loser.

Not once did you mention it when things were going well.

As soon as things go pear-shaped, it's moan moan moan!
