Well Kaif definately has a better technique than Yuvraj and definately deserved a test call sooner than Yuvraj. He is quick on his feet, has got a good eye and is a perfect middle order batsman.

I think Neil forgot to include Sehwag, he's a certainty to open and he's the only batsman who's been in some form for India.

I agree with Sudeep though, Gambhir to pip Jadhav to the openers slot.

Looks good, but I'd honestly like to see SS Paul given a try out for experimental/curiousness sakes.

84 odd wickets at 24 in Ranji Trophy Cricket is very good.

Most keepers could beat Patel when it comes to quality. If you could call Patel a keeper though.

Whatever it takes!!!
I don't think it would be such a bad idea to try to play 3 spinners at Mumbai. The Wankhede wicket has been spinner friendly ever since it has been relaid and there would be no harm in trying this out in this match, with the series already having been decided.

Great News Here Below From CricInfo

"Cricket Australia is trying to ensure that the fight for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy is held every second year and that the next tour to India is brought forward to 2008. Bob Merriman, the CA chairman, said the series could mirror the Ashes, and also mentioned that neither of the Australian or Indian boards had signed on the ICC's 10-year plan, according to which Australia's next visit to India is in 2010."

To me this is absolutely wonderful news. As I said earlier, may the cricketing links continue to prosper between these two wonderful nations. Very special for me as well, and hopefully India will come to Australia more often then they do.

Hope this plan goes ahead!

I think it is safe to say that the India v Australia series has overtaken the West Indies v Australia series in Australia. It was evident last season when India were the prime Test nation (if you don't count the top end tour) when usually it would be Pakistan & India. This year was supposed to be West Indies & Pakistan (but for the first time West Indies wouldn't be the prime nation in a very long time). I think we will see a lot of India v Australia in the future. It is good to see the authorites keeping an eye on these things and giving the fans what they want. It is just a shame that both sides are ageing sides and the contests probably won't have that history in 2008.

Unofficially, the ACB ( and other boards presumably ), are dividing the opposition into tiers, based on their competitiveness and popularity.

1st tier. Those countries that get a summer to themselves...5 tests
2nd tier. Summer divided between them and another 2nd tier country. 3 tests each.
3rd tier. Winter series up north.

OK, it's not quite that simple..I can see 4/2 splits and the like, but with a 4 year turnaround, it means there can only be 2 1st tier, 4 second, and 3 third, and even with that, it's a very tight schedule. On average, 7 'home' tests/year, and presumably as many away, plus ODIs.

That happens in England too... four tiers.

1) Five Tests in July, August & September (SA, Aus)
2) Four Tests in July, August & September (WI, Ind)
3) Three Tests in May & June (Pak, SL, NZ)
4) Two Tests in May & June (Bdesh, Zim)

I agree. It's a great idea, and I hope series after series is played in the coming years. Whether people believe India is 2nd best or not or whatever, there's no doubt in my mind that its become the most anticipated series in cricket, and has to keep occurring for the fans' sake, as well as the players I'd sure.

Regarding the ageing side, I agree. The history of Warne v Laxman, Tendulkar v McGrath and Harbhajan v Hayden will soon be gone as many of the great players will hang up the boots before the next series is played (at least I think so, when do India come to Aust. next?). That is a real shame!

Although I think Pathan v Clarke could be a real cracker in the coming years. :D
