Actually, we've seen 4 players dropped - Patel, Yuvraj, Chopra and AA.

Karthik, Paul, Jadhav and Gambhir coming in.

Wow, certainly didn't expect that one, but still a welcome move anyways.

It will be interesting to see who opens with who. Sehwag is a dead set certainty to open, but will it be Jadhav or will it be Gambhir. Both have tremendous potential and both have done extremely well in Ranji Trophy Cricket.

The biggest relief is that we have a competetent wicket keeper behind the stumps. Arguably the best technical wicket keeper since Nayan Mongia from India. Dinesh Karthik is a welcome breath of fresh air in this side.

SS Paul, wow, didn't expect that one, don't know much about him, lets see what he can do. His bowling stats look very impressive though. 88 FC wickets at 24 in Indian Conditions where everybody averages over 50 is very impressive.

I must say I'm disappointed how few people gave AA credit for his fine knock today.

I seem to recall him getting a century against England when India were going to (and did) lose, does he score a lot of his runs when they're pretty much useless or is this just a false impression I've gotten?

Then it's a bit of double standards your comment before. You said that AA is paid to bowl and therefore his batting should not be taken into account. I responded to that and you seemingly ignored my response.

Actually i think its the opposite. I would have considered selectors brave if they didn't make more than one change b'coz the media would have jumped on them if atleast Patel and Chopra were not dropped

Thinking of India's pace bowlers, its a real threadbare cupboard unfortunately.

Their's Ajit Agarkar who we all know about.

There's SS Paul, who is rated highly, but against Australia would likely get slaughtered, There's Aavishkar Salvi who once again is highly rated but has been struggling for fitness for most of his career.

There's Amit Bhandari who's only claim to fame was a 3/30 against a 2003 strength Zimbabwean side (Carlisle, Ervine, Blignaut, Grant Flower, Streak).

There's a Siddharth Trivedi who the Australian's would eat up, and there's Munaf Patel with alleged pace but no direction and Australia are bound to cream him all over the park.

Other than Zaheer, Agarkar, Nehra and Pathan who do we pick?
Especially now since Balaji is injured, but even the Australian's would've spanked Balaji all over the park.

Things aren't looking too good, well things never look good in terms of the fast bowling department.

Irfan Pathan is the only exceptional talent in this Indian Side and even he is averaging 40 with the ball in test matches.

It's worrying.

SS Paul is a medium pacer bowling in the 120ks and mainly gets the ball to seam back in . Good line and length bowler who has good control on his deliveries but he needs a helpful pitch in my opinion. But certainly deserved a call up and i think even if he doesn't get wickets, he atleast won't be spanked around. Mumbai is known to offer help to the seamers and what better way to test himself than against the best b'coz nobody has much expectations from a newcomer anyway.

Salvi is always injured when he is about to make the team

Trivedi has nothing expect height . Even Tinu Yohannan is better and i don't rate him that highly

C'mon Sangrah, you were the last person i expected to make such a comment. What more do you expect the guy to do? He first played in Asia Cup in 2000 where he was spanked around and was dropped. But since then he has been piling on wickets in domestic cricket and has been the best bowler for India A most of the times, whenever he has played.Then he was rewarded with a call up to Aus where he played only one game in which he did very well and then was not given another chance again. If there is one bowler who could be successful among the reserves then i think it is him. I would have understood your comment , if he got another match and got spanked in that but he did well in the only match he got

As I have said from the beginning, by pushing his case for opening , Ganguly has cooked Yuvraj's goose as a middle order batsman too. Very sad. But this is what stupid and/or personal agendas will get you.

It will be great if India finally opens with Jadhav and Gambhir and both get runs and Sehwag plays in the middle order where he prefers to play and will surely be even more consistent. Then Mr Ganguly will not find a place in the middle order himself !!

I agree with you here Vishnu, but I only said his only International Claim to fame was his 3/30 odd, he hasnt been given any other opportunities, but he did look like a good bowler.

Possibly in the future, but I guarantee Sehwag will open in Mumbai. He's in good form, and they need someone with experience there otherwise we'll be 2 down in no time with McGrath and Gillespie bowling well.
