well the problem is between 2015 and 2020 they so rarely actually used spin in OD cricket that they barely know the options beyond zampa. and he's still living off his first good year in ODI cricket. also: he's a leg spinner, don't you know?

Otherwise you have a gun top 3 and then have to somehow get Rahul to change his game completely or settle for a lesser batsman. Not optimal. Might as well have a gun top 4 and a less poor lower middle order.

Again, 5-8, we need multi skill people. Iyer is a gun batsman and fielder but offers nothing with the ball. No need for another top 4 option just to bat at 5 when we can blood others with additional skills and see who can handle the gig

If Australia could bring back one player to fit into our top 7 who has played for Aus say this century, Id pick Watto.

As it stands I think our 5 man bowling unit are basically forced to bowl when they have been.

I mean Starc will come back for a short burst soon. Cummins will bowl a bit, but save a few overs for the early 40s and we will finish with Starc and Richardson.

With Watto instead of Turner, it would give the bowling unit so much more flexibility and thats not even taking into account his batting.

Yeah but with the next WC 3 years away and the next big ICC ODI event (if it happens) 18 months or so away, this is the right time to start looking at the next set of options. At least we have found a #4 after 2 or 3 years of struggle. Trust this brains trust to mess the one thing we chanced upon finally.
