Will Maxwell replace MMarsh?
Lyon took 8 on the first day.The real issue is how will Lyon get the footmarks to work with at the right handers? Imagine if Cummins was in for Starc at Bangalore...
On reflection and before the announcement I changed my mind from Dorf to Cummins. Yes the ashes is important and would have liked him to have more fc matches. But winning in India is a mission in itself and circumstances didn't accommodate those plans.Cummins it is then
I mean we shouldn't be thinking beyond this series, surely? Winning this series would be a staggering achievement on par with any Ashes series you could name.On reflection and before the announcement I changed my mind from Dorf to Cummins. Cummins best replicates Starc's pace and batting ability so in he goes. It's a total gamble but Aus might as well find out if he's ready by playing him in India as much as in the shield. Fingers crossed.
It also means the fifth bowler will be very important now, more so than the last two tests. Whomever of Stoinis and Agar can be relied upon to bowl ten niggardly overs gets a cap. If that's a toss up then I favour Agar whom I think is more likely to score runs than Stoinis.
The worry is an injury prone bowler on a potentially dead wicket with a captain who wants to win badly and will over bowl him if the other options don't work. Ideally Lyon, Sok, Haze bowl well enough that Cummins can be used in short bursts. 5th bowler can't be a mug either.I mean we shouldn't be thinking beyond this series, surely?
