Cricketer Of The Year
Maybe I'm talking myself into this but managing Cummins now would be similar to managing Harris back then. So I think we can dust off the Harris management plan and apply it to Cummins.

My hope with Cummins is that given he's now 23 (mostly the fast bowlers injury danger area is up until about 23 AFAIK) he'll be a lot more fitter.

It's obviously a risk but given the series situation, we kinda needed to gamble one way or another.

Yeah and Starc never bowled on the first day, is it? Every commentator kept bringing it up, he was concentrating on hitting the area that Starc was hitting on his follow through.
No, he was concentrating on hitting the area that every commentator said he should have been aiming at for his entire career

Whatever it takes!!!
And I agree about this being a bigger achievement than any Ashes win for the Aussies. Esp. with the series 1-1 they need to go for broke at Ranchi. If it is 2-1 post Ranchi, they take the more conservative calls for the 4th test. And with that being in the Himalayas, guess swing and seam bowlers like Bird and maybe even Stoinis can come into the picture there but they need to go for the attacking options at Ranchi and that means Maxwell and Cummins for the Mitches.

Lol.. See what happens when he tries to hit that at Ranchi. And IIRC, he was hitting these areas even in 2013. And I do not see any marked difference in speed or trajectory either. That area of the pitch was softer than the others and Starc's footmarks and perhaps the first morning dampness helped it be that unpredictable but it was such a big contrast to the rest of the wicket esp. during the first 5 sessions or so. As it dried out, think it all slowed down even though I assume the same variations were there.

Cummins bowled at 150k + as a 17 yo with an action that placed massive stress on his body - kid was an injury waiting to happen and so it proved

He is very different now

I would not have picked him as he simply doesn't have enough miles in his legs

Just no

He has bowled too straight for most of his career

Fair enough. I Have not watched Lyon as much as you have and it is true that as an offie, you get more threatening if you can pitch it outside off of the right hander and aim to hit off stump. But I just meant that Starc's footmarks on day 1 helped make him as dangerous as he was there in Bangalore. Maybe he learned his lesson and will concentrate on that line from now, at least in the SC?

Maxwell and Cummins is Australia's best chance of winning IMO.

1-1 in India with two to play? You've got to pick the side most likely to win.

I'd be tempted to bench Warner as well and put Khawaja in his place, Warner needs a reality check.. soft as and has dropped a bunch of catches as well
