For me it's not really about the youngsters, just pick your best team and that's that. We thought McKay was part of that and the domestic evidence supported it, turns out he's not (yet) so time to find the person who is.

And really, that's what these matches are about, finding the right XI for the World Cup. Good to find these things out now rather than on the biggest stage.
And domestic evidence also suggests that his team-mate Andrew McDonald is a far better cricketer in every respect and yet he seems to have been placed in the never to be selected again category despite never having let Oz down

Where has McKay's legendary slower ball gone? He was bowling it every other ball over in India.

Saw him bowl his first couple of overs in international cricket and it didnt take Einstein to work out that he wasnt that good

Fact is that he hasnt made the most of it because he's not especially quick or accurate and doesnt move the ball

Cant believe the selectors even considered him tbh
This is the problem with only watching him for a "couple of overs" and then making a stupid judgement call about him as a bowler. Fact is he's a good bowler that was an integral part of the best attack in Australia and he deserved his shot. He hasn't made the step up, granted, but that doesn't mean it wasn't worth a shot and the selectors certainly shouldn't be taking any heat here (unless they persist with him for much longer).

True but England did that last year when you beat us after the ashes and now look a side gaining momentum at the right time having won in South Africa and now being set to go 2 up here.Have Australia left their looking at players a bit late?

Obviously the kids Smith and Hazlewood are different cases as they were under the radar this time last year but it seems you are trying out too many bowlers at once.
Injuries and unavailability FOR ****S SAKE!

Colly :)

In other news, I just have to share that I am a DIY genius, having managed to dismantle my toilet mechanism, fix it, and put it back together.
Until late last year, we'd had three years of refilling the cistern with a bucket of water, because trying to reconnect it to the mains water supply would result in flooding the bathroom - so well done.

(also because I was too tight to pay someone to sort it out  )

Another day-nighter played in 75% broad daylight btw. Was the 2.30 start strictly necessary?

One over and I knew he collapsed at release so didnt make use of his height

One over and I knew he wasnt quick

One over and I knew he didnt have a repeatable action

All of which has been on display in every single match he's played since

Not sure what one has to do with the other...

McDonald isn't the worst option for the one-day side though.

I'm surprised in some way that Hopes and Watson haven't bowled more, and didn't bowl more early on. It looks as though the selection doesn't quite match up with the tactics.

Who is the spare batsman on tour, could they bring him in for the next game instead of Hopes?
